i think you'd be very very lucky to get that amount out of a 2 litre engine without some severe gadgetry. evos make up to 330 from a 2l block, but it would cost a huge amount of money (or just a huge turbo) to get that kinda power out of a volvo engine - and thats *if* the block is strong enough to cope with that kind of power - they are strong but your talking about more than doubling the output..

oh and incidentally, the evo uses a huge turbo.. im pretty sure theres no way of shoe-horning that kind of power from a 2l block without variable valve timings/clearances.

360bhp from a NA B200....I'd say its impossible. 250, yes, but not much more. You could get close to 1000bhp if you turbod it though. The smaller bore engines (B21 / B200) take to BIG boost very well.
B204 head was indeed pretty much italian market only, but they're common enough (if pricey...italian scrap yards seem to charge a lot!).

I did a bit more lookin round and b230's and B234 heads are more availible in Oz so i'm unfortunately going that way. And not with a turbo, i had a charade with a turbo in it, and while it hauled ass it was more problems than i'd care to detail so turbos are outta the question(Also it's more satisfying to waste some jap import that has had a turbo added if you wasted him without a turbo).Also yes one of the ideas is a variable camshaft design, if we had the technology the camshaft profile could be tuned for every rpm of the powerband(both ideal valve timing and lift), but every 100rpm of the powerband seems more realistic, the only real problem seems to be finding an aftermarket ECU product that can carry out the task.
Also where is the ECU actually located in the 360GLT? I asked this elsewhere on the forum and was told it was behind the instrument panel... well steering wheel and instrument panel is out and while theres an absolute crapload of wires in there (as bad as the car's wiring is i might skip the rewiring the car part after all), theres not much in the way of ECU's in there, just wires, relays and wires.

you could actually make a 'cam' to do that if you used electromagnets to control the valves - im not sure why no one has done this yet but im sure there is a reason

As far as I understand it VVT systems use a servomotor to adjust the cam timing (ie: to rotate it as the RPM rises), but the cam itself is still a rigid item, so the lift, etc can't be altered. I think the problem with electro magnets would be the huge forces involved, but its a very interesting idea!
As for the turbo....well...that was a Daihatsu!!! A B230ET/FT hardly has a reputation for unreliability....and its VERY easy power. For a start they only run very light boost pressure as standard.
I mean if you wanna set yourself a challenge then go NA, but the simple thing is to go turbo, as the motors are available off the shelf.

There was a B27 (more or less the same thing) 360 made called the 363CS.
C'mon rupert...fight your corner...what's the weight difference? I think it's a great idea personally...and if you'd heard his exhaust you'd agree!

I can't quote the actual weights just now, but the B280 being all alloy is only a tiny bit heavier than a 'red block' and the same as a 'red block' turbo.

Parner block and EVO top. They use those in Super Rally Cross-series. Packing over 300hp without a turbo. Costs a LOT though... EVO-top itself costs lot and like someone said before, parner blocks aren't cheap either. In SRC-class newest 2.9l EVO engine can cost something like over 30k euros.

Would be nice to have a 350hp EVO-engine in 360 though..
