AFAIK used car values are always reeeally low in "developed" countries. I'm in Sri Lanka at the mo and seen a few Mk3 1.4 saloons with A/C up for sale at £2800-£3000.
I think Japan is one of the countries with the highest depreciation in new cars. It's so uncool to drive a used car there, that values come clattering down to next to nothing in the first few years, meaning cars get scrapped after only 5 or 6 years or get sold on to Wladiwostok ...
