I was going to comment, but didn't want to overdo it

Cool stereo, just needs an OEM cassette holder and a 4x20W HA-4020 amp to complete the package

The hesitancy could be the mixture as i was still getting it fully sorted, as i said to you on the day, i think the needle needs moving then adjustment of the mixture screw..

Isnt' that Foggy-ish for "it's rusty, and I don't know what to do with it now I've bought it"

Guess what I bought at the weekend? Gas. Mask. Wire...various other bits and bobs...and Ozzy kindly donated a regulator. I'm fast running out of excuses
My goal for this year is to ditch my old unit (and the associated financial drain), but that is going to involve getting rid of 2 cars. I've just re-done the maths for the fourth time, and worked out I can actually keep everything I want to keep. I thought I needed to ditch both the mk2 GLT and the mk1 DL...and I'm now rather confused about why the hell I thought that! I just need to get rid of Nessy and the 240. I need to carefully check the condition of those two, and take it from there. Both need (at least) minor rust work and moar powerz. Or scrapping. Scrapping will be the quick answer, and will save me a lot of cash. It might be time to do the mildly painful thing and kill those two, given the significant financial incentive. Hmm.
Perhaps you better hurry up with finding a more local storage space, Steve
cheers

Ah well I only need a short space of time and will bring it back here... just need the weather to get better/scour a few parts before hand.
Ditch Nessy... that thing will always be a shed

The 240 has more appeal, could be quite nice with a B230FT and 15g turbo. As for the GLT and Mk1 DL... hmm, is there any point keeping them considering the vast array of other cars

He needs to keep the Mk1 until I can afford to buy it

Nessy would be a quick and easy part-out...there's not much to come off it! The 240 would arguably be even easier. The trouble with both is that there's actually quite a bit of work involved in doing what I'd want to do with them. The 240, for example, would want suspension all round, turbo conversion, and not insignificant bodywork. My plan was to do it as a summer project, perhaps next year. Nessy was definitely on the scrap list (and the boot is currently almost full with scrap metal)...but then I remembered how much money was put into making the underside solid, and all it really needs for an MOT is the A-pilar (have spare + MIG) and some odds and sods. Thing is...if one goes, the other becomes the only car left...which makes it very expensive storage for one car! I might see if my landlord at the new place minds me parking one or both of them somewhere outside up there...hmm!
Chris...get saving

I'm tempted to sell that one abroad...kick-start the pension

Bit of a dilemma, actually, because I reckon that car has the *potential* to set the price UK record for a 300 - mk1, 11k miles, etc....but I can't exactly ask you top dollar for it. Plus, it's far from certain that I'll be selling it at all! I didn't buy it to sell on...
cheers

Well I have to say the more I drive it the more I like it! But I can definitely confirm a few things that I'd like to give some attention to. I'm still weighing up the pros and cons of using it daily or finding some local storage and having it as an occasional use car.
- Pretty sure it's running rich, probably the cause of occasional hesitation? Will check dashpot level in the carb this weekend.
- Sort steering vagueness, will check condition of steering damper this weekend (it's been dark!)
- Better suspension would be required if I decide to go for it as a daily driver - it feels more like my 343 compared to my previous 360's.
- Better lighting - I think new headlights and decent bulbs would make a big difference, but the full beam is still lacking hence the look out for a hella grille (which I'm still not convinced on look-wise, but admittedly its not so bad on a Mk2!)

We'll take a look at the headlights, carb and steering at the weekend if you want.
The suspension stuff isn't too much of a surprise. It's probably original, and they weren't exactly "sporting" to start with, bearing in mind that GLTs got stiffer springs and gas shocks as standard. Easy enough sorted...
Oh...and get a garage. You know it makes sense

I reckon some new gas shocks and stiffer front springs would sort it, the front feels very floaty. 14" alloys will probably help too to reduce some sidewall flex. Put it this way, at the moment the S70 would walk all over it!
I haven't really been driving it that much, but mainly between Birmingham and Coventry so probably a different area to you! Not seen your 340 about either yet.
Must say though it's a great cruiser, it'll sit very quietly at 80mph!

Did you check that carb oil level yet? It causes hesitation among other things if there is no oil.

I just took a look at it now (last 5mins of daylight here!), and trying to find a reference as to how high the level should be. IMO it looks low so its well worth investigating, thanks!
