I'd like to strip down the rear hubs for cleaning and re-painting (mainly the drum back).

I've seperated an old hub that had a knackered bearing (83 360 GLS), but part of the bearing came out with it, the outer part that has the wheel studs on it. Perhaps this the glued bit.

Am I going to have the same problem with the 87 bearing, ie they are not dissassembleable so that you can rebuild them without renewing the bearing? I do have an actual Volvo bearing that was bought for the 83 car, but couldn't use it in the end and got a replacement scrap hub for that car. Mind you they could have given me the later bearing. this morning i've dismanteled an axle with the latest 340/360 universal type bearing and hubs, same as on your '87 axle
excessive heat on the inner hub to get the splined part out, then the shaft that holds the wheel fell out too; but, with the inner shell of the bearing with it...

so i'd say taking the hubs off the rear axle allways requiers new bearings. i don't feel comfortable with putting the old ones back together tbh :?

How do you remove and replace the bearings? Drift or press?

Hi ride-on.
I had to get one replaced on my old 89GLT. When you eventually get the hub off, the old one
has to be pressed out and the new one pressed in.
