Did 60 miles yesterday going to Uni and then to my Badminton club in Manchester. Drove through some horrendous roads in Manchester and unfortunately the filter decided to pop out again and like always rest on the manifold :x To be honest I think its the only place it would obviously land. The journey was trouble free nonetheless :D

Cable ties came to my rescue

Filter now secure, used about 10 ties to hold it down. Put the ties through the holes for the original 'frying pan' air filter.

Will be using this forum to kind of document stuff with my 340.

I was told the DIR32's over time have a tendancy to get the carb bolts loose with everyday engine vibrations......
How often will they have to be tightened?
Looks like my cable ties might have to come off eventually!

Throttle cable stuck or snapped. Its most likely stuck as it is in tension when looked at under the bonnet. Will have a look at it tomorrow.

I need a new throttle cable. The old one has seized. Car wouldn't start because throttle was open. Its now closed as I have disconnected the seized cable.

Saw a few universal throttle cables on ebay. Will they do the job? Any thoughts?

I've never known a 340 throttle cable to seize if I'm honest. I'd be inclined to look for a genuine cable - 'universal' usually means its designed to fit everything but actually fits nothing.....

A seized cable? A cable is just that a cable, therefore it cannot seize.

Whatever it is connected to could do but the cable itself is not going to seize, i pressume you've checked the connecting end on the accelerator pedal, and the other end on the carb? Something else will be amiss here, i doubt it's the cable itself.

They do rust and get very tight in the outer. There are lots of companies that will crimp ends onto a cable like that rather than get a QH or equiv crappy one, the back of a classic car mag will show up a load of adverts. Volvo ones are NLA from memory, but as always it's worth asking at the dealer at least so he knows there is some interest... one day they might get bored of saying that I'm the only one who ever goes to the dealers for bits anymore

the cables can definatly seize! when individual strings break of the end at the cable they can tigh themself up in the outer housing of the cable and completely block it

Happened with my 406 clutch cable.
Rusted, Frayed, caught on the outer housing, killed the pedal travel and made it impossible to get out of gear.

Didnt know if b14 throttle cables even HAD an outer housing though.
