Bah stop this... I'm seriously considering a bike related purchase at the moment!

Pedal atm I've got a Ridgeback hybrid that is my getting to work machine and I'm building up a Gary Fisher slowly for fun, my last fun bike was a Saracen jump frame that was particularly useless at much at all.

As to powered, there's a Yamaha RS100 and a Honda CB250 Benley in the garage. I'd like a decent sports bike, but there is something about my mentality that makes me think powered bikes arn't my scene.

That is interesting rear suspension, I wonder what it is like compared to other ones? My first impression was that it might transfer quite bit of shocks to bike body, but maybe there has been pedalling efficiency in other cup where that method wins?

Ah yes! Kona have been doing that setup since the early 00s. The idea is exactly as you said - to transfer energy to the frame when pedalling (therefore not losing power) but maintaining a good travel when the wheel is pushed up.

Was given this Kona by a colleague about 10 years ago, and I use it for everything, hols, MTB trips, and for work if it's dry. It's getting difficult to find parts for it now, only having 7 sprockets at the back.

That's quite an impressive line up of treadlies you got there!

I actually prefer riding to driving as far as commuting goes, although NZ winters aren't always conducive to such activities.

My main weapon of choice is my Scott Scale 40 hard tail, I also have a grungy old 12speed that I 'converted' to a single speed that I use on nice days (haven't been too many of those lately :( )

Once I figure out the piccie posting stuff I might put some up

Cheers from Aotearoa

Does it ever drop below 0C there? Might be bit rainy however, I did read it is between 640mm and 1280mm in a year, if most of that comes at winter it might get bit wet at times :D

We have had really warm summer, +30C with near 70% humidity, day after day, it is like being in jungle and I have to cycle nearly 10km each day as I don't have refrigerator, bicycling is not much fun when shirt is wet before starting, but here it is steep hills which were formed by ice age, so at least sweating I have learned

I have little issue with gears, front has 3 gears and I adjusted limiter of shifterthing because chain rubbed against it, now all is fine, except that sometimes chain goes too far by itself even gear has been on for quite some time and there is no sound indicating gear changing, not big problem to turn shifter bit back, but only way to prevent that is to let chain rub against shifterthing, maybe something is not lined up properly, happens of course only at largest gear.

I don't know proper words for all parts in global language, but maybe you can figure out what parts I meant.

Nearly 1000km done for this summer, quite care free cycling, twice I have lubed the chain, four or five times I have adjusted saddle, almost daily I add more air to tyres, but that is about it, just cycling. That said, I'm too scared to use my full strength no pedals, I'm pretty sure some part will fail, I don't have lot of durability, but more of quick single shot power, sometime at history managed to broke chain that was rather new, what resulted after that was rather painful, so I try to avoid such things, still I have felt handle bar flexing at times, cheap bike, must be careful not to get it broken :D

When I moved out three years ago I was in need of a bike urgently (what's a Dutchman without one eh) so I got a 1980s Raleigh Executive. It's got a frame for the ladies but what do I care, the bike cost me nothing to purchase and only 40 euros for a quick service, a new saddle and new lights back and front. I'll take a picture of it someday.

As for motorized bikes, I'm currently working on getting my licence and after that I'm getting a BMW of some sort (K75/K100, R80/R100, R1100RS etc)
