I must say, my reactions were very similar.

Arse. But there's a chance the bidder will not turn up. That's how I got mine.

I had to go and do something else too, to avoid an unplanned purchase! Hope it doesn't turn up for £2000 elsewhere.

Worse, I hope it doesn't turn up a wreck on pistonheads

Ouch. Lot of car. Small amount of money. To be fair, I paid about the same (potentially less...I can't exactly remember) for my blue mk1...with tax & test...but I'm still surprised that it didn't fetch more on eBay.

As for the look...they're ugly as sin as standard, but a front spoiler makes all the difference.

It's not a great colour...and the 5-door mk1s look quite a bit worse than the 3 doors, IMO (far more so than later versions). Still odd...
