Oh and note to self and anyone else, PVC tubing does NOT work for coolant routing. Im a silly boy for even thinkinng of using it (shakes head in embarrassment). All it does is melt. Guh, steel tubing, where are you?!

Congrats on getting it all in and running, seemed pretty quick and painless, it's a good feeling :D

I was going to ask if the pipe next to the manifold was plastic as i thought it would melt , what with the hot water and the extra heat from the mani. I decided against it though as i always seem to come across as negative on here! That reminds me i was going to warn off someone doing an engine conversion not to use Halfrauds oil filter's, can't remember who it was now though :lol:

I didn't want to mention the pipe as I thought you'd have it in hand ;)

hahaha I was a little suspicious of the poly's melting point. S'alright though, get up IKEA and get some metal table legs :lol:

RE: Zorst. I can weld buddy but I have no access to welding equipment at the moment. Find me a welder with wire and gas and I'll weld like the wind.

S'all good! Got some steel from round corner (courtesy of the gaf!), they restore old cars, so tonnes of tubing. Should work a treat now. :D I was just being a bit dippy, what with all the excitement of a new engine n all! MTB throttle cable works well too.

If I can find a welder speedy I'll give you a shout! My "baffle" seems to be working ok for quietness at the mo. Pics probs soon, and I'll properly start the how to guide as well.

ha ha, bloody noisy like! :lol: Fine, in all seriousness. Got me to b'ham tonight no problem. Need to re-adjust the clutch, slipping a lil bit if you give it some. Been looking at custom zorst quotes too, some ain't as bad as I thought.

So yeah, drove all the way up the A38 to b'ham, not a problem, apart from the gaf nearly dying from hay fever. Was a good chance to check things over and get some more pics :wink: (she was fine, by the way). Definitely driving the A38 from now on to get to and from bristol, its waaayy more interesting than the motorway, and with the short ratio 1.4 box, easier on the fuel and ears too.

Good to hear you've sorted most the teething problems which are always to be expected, and dare i say it, part of the fun and learning your car.


Whats the plan wheels wise, have you got wide ones for the back, or are you keeping the skinny's for easy arse out action :lol:

Ha ha, genius. Yeah, everything seems to be sorted now, bar the clutch. could have just been some water dripped through the top flywheel gap, but meh, I'll check it anyway. One thing to say is the front jacking points are fubard. I cant use the standard points now, as the just carry on through the floor :( Everything else is fine though! :lol:

I definitely think it was awesome to do, and learn tonnes about it too. I was pretty familiar with the 1.4 when I began the swap, now I can get familiar with the 2.0 and fuel injection its self. I didnt know what a map sensor did until Adam told me :oops:

Wheel wise Im getting another pair of wides, probably ET -10 Weller 13 x 8s up front, the 9s will then go to the back, with larger tyres on. For actual drifting, I'll wack the standards on, for like you say, easy skiddage. I would have a set of wides on all four wheels, I got them for £50, but one had a huge dent in from the guy hitting a curb, I couldnt save the wheel. So just using the 9s up front for steering response, because of the uber stretch, its like having powered steering.

what did you do for the fuel system?
as I need to do some kind of swirl pot to stop hesitation and a extra pump as the car was originally carb.

Just seeing what your setup was?

Yeti, again, I used one of Adam's units. Its a standard volvo sender adapted to fit with a 3 bar walbro motorsport grade pump. Fits in the tank like standard. I reckon you could just use an external fuel pump, maybe two, and external filter etc. That'd save you modding the standard sender, and you could just swap the carb hoses for high pressure fuel lines. It'd also mean your fuel gauge still works too, due to no messing with the sender.

I went for Adam's as it was a decent price, considering the grade of pump, and it was plug and play. I use my car daily and use the boot very often, so an external pump wasn't an option. If I wasn't using it daily, I would have gone for the set up above with the fuel pump(s) etc.

Just a few more pics. drove part way home to malvern without a hitch, saw the family, grabbed a trunk from the local jumble, and got a free roof rack! Wahey!

does the job though. on the way back to brizzle however, every now and then he would hesitate, like he was carbed still. The idle would go lumpy every now and then too. Fuel pump is sound, no crap in the filter, timing was done right. job for tomorrow is check every connection. Seems to be some how related to the heater fan, as when I turned it on, he hesitated, turned the fan off, back to normal. Though it could be complete coincidence. Didnt do it for the rest of the journey though. Check over everything when I have time is the plan.

Rev counter should turn up tomorrow, and a full exhaust system should be done by thursday. Just got loads of exam revision now! WOO!

hmm that is so nice!!
i want some 13 or 14inch banded steels!
then i can drop mine by 3 inch, if i did drop it 3inch now with 15's it would rub and still not be that low to the ground.
if i could find some cheap ones like you did, i would be in my element.
Anyway very nice!! my favourite car on this site!!!!

[EDIT] old plates are on, rozzas have a word? i think they look better now there on.
also what size tryes up front?

Thanks a lot Theo! Means loads when people say stuff like that! :D The plates I swapped, dud to the questionable legality of them, and also my lack of exhaust. Didnt want to get pulled over because of plates, and then they find I have no exhaust . . . :wink:

Im not driving it now until its all sorted, so it'll be ok then. I'll probably use the pressed plates for show stuff from now on.
