Good evening all, here is the next update
18/01/17
started by cleaning the inside if the new drivers wing, passenger one had already been done earlier, as i was wire brushing it much to my surprise rust holes appeared.....
Image20170118_105847 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
there was no sign of rust here the paint was unmarked but then holes....

so i had a little think and was going to weld in a new piece of metal when i remembered the wing that was on her was ok in this area.
Image20170118_105900 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_105912 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_115534 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_115545 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_151210 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

I then painted the inside of both wings with rust encapsulator
Image20170118_151217 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_151221 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

while they were drying i put the old suspension together so she will become a rolling shell to go and get painted
Image20170118_151232 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_151235 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_152529 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

put a 2nd coat on the inside of the wings
Image20170118_155726 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

i also re coated the bellhousing as i managed to get black splatters on it
Image20170118_155749 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170118_155742 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

also put on the cheap set of ball joints to allow for a rolling shell
Image20170118_160331 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

more to follow tomorrow :)

good day to you all,
25/01/17
so after the discovery of my cock up around the wing and windscreen i sepent the day correcting the issue, first i set out cutting the side out again and gentle cutting the weld from under the corner of the windscreen by the wing.
Image20170125_122140 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

then massaged the corner out and test fitted the wing (also ground down any welds on the inside of the wing that might have been causing issue to allow it to fit better)
Image20170125_124140 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170125_131759 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

I then cut a new piece of metal out an re built the lower gutter
Image20170125_141513 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

rust encapsulated
Image20170125_145936 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170125_150954 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Then replaced the top layer with a new piece of metal
Image2017-01-25 15.42.27 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

welds cleaned up and a key'ed for the filler to stick to
Image2017-01-25 16.17.48 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

as you can see with the wing back on it looks spot on now
Image20170125_162444 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170125_162446 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

and the gap is more reasonable
Image20170125_162455 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

coated with some paint to protect till friday
Image20170125_163508 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

more filler on friday

we are getting there at last!! :340: :D

Image20170127_162114 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170127_164438 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

i feel the windscreen needs a bit more work it does not yet have the sight arch in the downward section the other side has, but that is contouring

hope that it wont be long till she is ready to go and be painted

Hello all, a small update today.
02/02/17
As the weather is so bad, I decided to have a look at painting the chrome parts to make them look erm more chromed...

Couple of test pieces, to trial it out.
Started by sanding and cleaning the parts
Image20170202_102105 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170202_103046 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170202_140246 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170202_140307 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170202_170638 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

I think it needs a coat of lacquer over to protect and make it shinny.

What do you guys think?

Hello all, after trying the chorme idea i was not happy with it, so going back to the drawing board on that idea.
another update for you all
05/02/17
I was allowed a few hours on the car, so I used them to finish of the windscreen.
Image20170205_110902 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

lots of sanding later and also had a section near the wiper arm hole to sort

Image20170205_124924 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170205_124928 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Still got this little lump on the other side to sort, hammer or grinder...
Image20170205_125749 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

but overall she is looking good

Lots of work again :D

Personally I'd fit black window trims off a GLT/later 340 as the chrome always fades and it may be hard to replicate the original effect without it looking too silver.
