Tank following that one worked out at 37MPG, last tank 30MPG.

Thats pretty good I think, as non of it has been just sit on the motorway which is what the old 1.7 needed to get really super economy. I reckon I'm about 5ish MPG's under what the 1.7 could do, and I havn't even got to properly wideband tuning yet so I'm running a bit richer than I know I could. I see this as pretty awesome tbh

Talking of the old 1.7 yesterday I finally, after 4ish months, got my new V5 back


My insurance company has known about the engine since day one, but it's nice to now have *all* the paperwork legit. It would have been much easier though if the DVLA just told me I could take it to my nearest dealers to get them to check ffs. Shame it wasn't the Volvo dealers, I actually had to pay for Renault to look at the engine plate and write out a letter for me

I've been a bit "relaxed" about the V5 for the 343. I see a trip to those very nice men at MRG in my future.

Yeah. I started proceedings pretty much as soon as the engine was done. Thing for me is the fact it's my daily and I do get pulled more than the average bear seems to because of that. I'm still seeing 15k a year, which I guess is only going to lengthen the odds. I would feel very silly if I had to tell a copper that even though I did the swap in Sept/Oct time I started trying to sort the paperwork that long ago, I certainly wouldn't believe anyone that told me that

Decided to finally sort all the fuel lines around the boot today, I'm sure most 340 owners have had the "don't put more than 20 quid in" syndrome at some point

New 12mm pipe fitted from the main tank to filler pipe, and changed the 6mm's to the expansion tank and on the overflow whilst there too. Also put a new 90degree filter on the Evo fuel pump and dropped it 40mm (25% of the tank) so hopefully I shouldn't get fuel starvation when I get down to a quarter tank anymore, the pickup is now on the bottom. Really squeaky clean inside the tank too, I was most chuffed. Did some other tidying of bits too, lots of small niggly things. Still, the list of things I ignored on this car is getting shorter

Glass 3/4 full atm Sven... it'd be full but I've got 4/5 patches I need to weld up in the near future.

I don't dislike it tbh, all the time it's not pressured. If it has to be done before I can drive the car and I need to go somewhere it's a pain but when I can do things on my schedule

Same with all jobs on the car tbh. That's why I like to replace things if I know they are breaking (gearbox for example is being replaced soon before I'm stuck under the car on a rainy night because it shattered just before work).

Wish I could weld, would mig welding go right through a 300 sill?

Not if you do it right. The kit isn't cheap, but it's pretty easy once you've got it.

see I've been thinking about getting a mig welder for years, it's always a good investment. I was once offered a whole setup for £70 (guddun too, went down to 20A) but I had no money

Finding good settings is difficult for me, even at lowest power I can easily melt nice hole to new metal or then thing goes on and off in very rapid speed causing pigeon waste like weldings.

I have weld with welder that uses sticks too and it was very stupid method, I think, with mig there is bit less problems, but those seem to be more permanent ones

Some day I will find those magic settings and after that I can perhaps fix front beam end and maybe do something to those doors too.

Mig welder is pretty much a must with old cars, at least in here, also one needs some way to get under the car as underside needs usually welding.
