I guessed and had a pool ball drilled to 17mm, then had to pack it with a bit of paper so 16mm is probably pretty much spot-on.

il have a go at one then, any one got a spare nob i could have so i can have a template without taking mine appart?

ideally with reverse gate mechanism to see if i can make a wood one of them aswell!

You don't have to worry about the reverse gate, it's below the knob.

yeh and dont copy the volvo knob.

I'd love a nice slender one that grows up and outwards. reverse dont get used untill your parking and its easy enough to activate.

not looked at the nob yet, i will do once i get a job sorted and my workbench!

just made these last night for somthingt to do.

a tea spoon holder for teh kitchen and a little goblet, though not hollowed out yet...

yeah it could be either i spose, just not sure how the varnish and fag ends would mix into a firey substance. or not.

Hunger grows bigger and soon:



CNC wood turning lathe, automatic sanding and laquering etc, makes block to product with press of button as you just have made design at computer, might be 'slight' joy killer, but very capable

Costs probably something around 40-60, would need to make lot of bowls for that

But little bigger lathe is probably not too expensive, also some tools might work with next lathe too if lucky and staying in same brand/branch machines, so investment to those is not wasted effort when moving to bigger lathe, but never knows how sick manufacturers are.

Have you tested polishing?

ive no need for somthing like that! i like to actually do somthing and not just press buttons! if neeeded i can program a cnc machine but the need hasnt arisen in a few years!

i can also operate industrial CNC lathe's and CNC mill's; but i've allways preferred the non-cnc machines.

it's a bit like precision vs fun; you think a lot more yourself if there's no computer doing the XYZ axle's for you..

I also prefer playing with windy lathes and mills over CNC, even though I have to do a lot of CAD stuff for work

snap. ive 6nvqs in autocad and did some time as an autocad technician. but nothing beats "windy" lathes.
