Why didn't you get the tuning parts off of it and left the rest
At the time, I didn't even bother to haggle, or talk about stripping parts. The seller was talking about an offer of 2800 Euros from someone in Austria, you don't then go and say "OK, I'll offer you scrap money then" Besides: engine tuning parts from a car which has been laid up for ten years? The carbs would need a complete rebuild, the cam and the e-fan can presumeably be sourced from other places. The front spoiler was gone. The only thing probably worth taking would be the R-Sport air box and the inlet manifold. And maybe some DLS/GLS-specific stuff like the rev counter dash.
I've recently heard the car is still there. Maybe I'll give the owner another call

Foggy's got a Mk1 345 for sale and I'm sure you could find some twin carbs and a B19 to drop in it..........

Yes it has, the new owner contacted me last night. He plans to restore the car - a very brave man I gave him Laurens', Wouter's and Peter's contact details, he may be in touch with you guys soon with some questions ... His main question is whether these cars were sold like that from the factory (which would mean there is a list of "official R-Sports" somewhere, complete with their chassis nos) or whether they were basically standard cars with dealer-fitted R-Sport kits. I personally think the latter is true, that would explain why there appears to be such a wide range of R-Sport based cars, both 3 and 5 door, DLS / GLS-based cars, etc.
That's Laurens' car - one of the German R-Sports with the front spoiler and the triangular stripes along the side ... Not sure how far he is with the restoration though.
he hasn't started restoring it yet car has some running issues, i promised him i would come around and have a look at the twin carbs someday, but when that'll happen...
