You will, just wait 25 years and check back what you did say today, I guarantee that you will not have that opinion then, I too thought that once, something odd about these years that build up

You will eat your words once you've driven motorways for a while

Try 3 hrs in a straight line, doing nothing, in a 4 geared screamer.
You obviously havnt yet.

I think your forever is bit shorter than average
It really is odd how everything changes with age, but it is rather huge change at some point after 30.
Trips including driving 12 hours with only stops being filling the tank, might have also something to do with it

I ought to clarify....*my* 343 is frickin' loud...and 360 GLTs are noisy over 90mph or so, compared with a GLE. Neither are that noisy, but a GLT's engine becomes a bit more vocal at high speed, thanks to the gearing.
I'm still surprised at the difference between a good one and a bad one, mind you. A tight 300 really isn't that bad at all.
cheers
James

I did 900 miles in my living room last week and it was wonderful. About 90 though it does get a little loud. It was a dream at about 65

Quiet as anything at most speeds, bit noisy at 90 but not too bad.
Until I press the throttle.

When I did the 700 mile Cornwall trip to Theo's and back in a day in the 1.7 the engine/road noise was fine, quite comfortable, but i do have a problem with wind noise due to a perished door seal just above the drivers mirror. Fix that and it's fine at fast motorway speeds

. The old 77 vario I had was very noisy though, especially at 80

(allegedly).
When I had wider wheels with low profile tyres on the 1.7 a few years ago it was much noisier though, especially on certain road surfaces. It's horses for courses, I put the standard (for a 440 wheel) tyres on this time cos I knew I'd be doing a fair bit of long distance driving (loaded up and with the caravan). I still have the other wheels & tyres, will be going back on soon for better cornering

My french crap is more quiet at 50 than my 360 at idle and french crap is a diesel crap
But, 360 has rumble and thunder, despite the fact that it is slower than french crap
360 at 90 is suffering door flapping syndrome, it can't be quiet then. Maybe there is difference between 3dr/5dr and sedan too?
