UPDATE

Wheel seams double protected with "Capt. Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure", new tyres fitted (Avon ZT5s), wrapped and into store.

Front struts off. and into pieces - starting with N/S

Image

Oh! goody goody - a broken spring!

Image

Image

Not all bad though - top mount and top spring cup both OK (bearing knackerd)

Image

Bottom cup rusty but quite recoverable

Image

Now to have a look at the O/S (and track down a pair of springs).

Mac.

Practical Classics - now there's a thing (appreciate the comments but PC don't seem interested in 300s - tried them before)

The bits in bags - now that's an age thing - need a note on the fridge to remind me to take a dump.

Youtube! - I loathe it with a passion - stops people talking to each other - I regard "social networking" in the same way as I
regard politicians.

UPDATE

Had the offside strut apart this morning,
Oh frabjious day, caloo kalay quoth the Jabberwocky - another broken spring (bottom coil this time!)
Not really an extra problem as I have ordered a pair from the Monroe site today. Strut and bottom
cup rusty but quite recoverable as was the n/s.

My now daily lists to the dealers have thrown up some more "available" items.

3293245 Gearbox front mount (beam to body) £13.60 (rear beam to body mounts NLA)
3292393 Gearbox rear box to beam bush £2.35
3292388 Gearbox front box to beam bush £0.80
3297404 Gearbox reaction rod bush £0.80
3200035 Driveshaft CV joint capscrews (6 each end each shaft) £0.80
3120041 Brake disc to hub capscrews £0.30
3296238 Pedal rubber £2.15
3472891 Clutch cable to pedal link (the one that used to be plastic) £4.50

all above exclude vat.

Mac.

ps. Chris - my expedition approaches - if you want me to drop those mounts off to Robbert in Belgium as I pass through
get yourself to the post office.

Top mount and top cup - amazing - don't get much better than this - even the bearing was ok (will get changed though).

Ni probs Chris - I don't go until mid Aug.

UPDATE

Well well we are full of surprises today !

Finished stripping struts to find damper inserts aren't - they're the old type fluid filled strut casing! on an '88' yr mod.
I must confess I had thought production had used inserts since 84 at least. Certainly only replacement inserts were
stocked from about then.

Image

Foggy was asking recently about fluid qty. - now I know - refill qty. is 320ml per side.

Now a treat for the lovers of chaos - Macs "control room" and where he actually lives.

all for today, Mac.

Fakes were too Mac (89 my and build), which is shocking considering her mileage. I'm sure I have a receipt, so I imagine they were re oiled at some point

APOLOGIES PEOPLE
Dealer has just rung - he has ordered my list above to find that:-

3293245 Gearbox front mount (beam to body) £13.60 (rear beam to body mounts NLA)
3292393 Gearbox rear box to beam bush £2.35
3292388 Gearbox front box to beam bush £0.80
3297404 Gearbox reaction rod bush £0.80
3200035 Driveshaft CV joint capscrews (6 each end each shaft) £0.80
3120041 Brake disc to hub capscrews £0.30

Are all NLA (they show available on the system until you place an order) - all back to normal!
In future I won't advise until I have parts in my grubby hands.

Pedal rubbers and cable connector I have rec'd.

Mac.

the fluid filled struts are on all 300's from factory, but as you say all after replacements are inserts now, luckaly!
