Aye, it's a very good job I had the winter steelies on.
Else MCHUDD would be riding around on 3 alloys
SteveP wrote:Bad look with the rim! Inspiring to see you using this as a daily on some pretty epic long journeys, looks like fun

It is fun, until you have to fill 'er up. This dizzler project needs fast tracking.

Well the booty is still there in the trailer:
Time for the moment of truth and see if my roof box packing was good or bad....

promising....

appears like the bag of beads hasn't burst everywhere, good...
I had split this jumbo bag of beads down and half of it was in 6 wee blue bags in the trailer, one of which I now have to hoover up.

We were given a wee chair for the wee man which is missing a lot of it's filling, besides the pouffe in the living room was looking a bit lame and needed a bit more stuffing.
Well the rear glass came out okay:

Next piece is under the blanket:

2 out of 3 ain't bad:

Now under a blanket and a pair of Lidl winter overalls:

3 out of 3, even better
A thousand thanks to my son for letting me steal all his nappies to make the lovely base support for the glass

I have a black rim in that style you can have for free. Well actually, I've got 5. They will be my drift set but I've already got an odd number so this one is yours if you want!

Thanks for the offer like, but space/time/distance precludes it.
I've got a few spare here, it's just that I had them powder coated before Xmas

If I had more time I'd be claiming off whoever is supposed to maintain that bit of motorway.

Shame about the wheel mate, still, least it held its air. As Steve says above, nice to see it being used daily

Wow, epic thread, enjoying this immensely

Better than any Top Gear Special. Next time, take a camera crew with you.
Cheers

which means I can get rid of those stupid pin attached things I've got at the minute

(MY 1983 means it still has the LHD wiper sweep)
By the way, if anyone has a similar problem, the correct spindle-fit Bosch wipers to look out for are these Bosch 562 ones:

Forget the model year description on the box - AFAIK they only fit Mk1s - my '80 uses these, but my '82 has the later wiper arm style.
If anyone else from the UK is after "regular" LHD wiper arms to replace the spindle jobs, check out these:

Well I've started to have a look every time I see an 18" wiper blade

Tesco ones are fine, Asda ones seems okay. No doubt that Lidl "Ultimate Speed" ones will do the trick (just checked and they do have a hole). Just avoid the Valeo ones with no hole in them. The main problem I had was security of the pin fitting and none of the above come with spare pins like they used to in ye olden dayes.
The pin fitting that is used on the very early cars is a PITA as it has no extra security other than the pin itself, which clips into the end of the arm, not the wiper. A proper pin fitting to me would be the other way round with a security bridge (12) and look like this:
Some early cars I'm led to believe used a bayonet fitting arm (on the right below ) like so:
Then came the hook:

Yep, usually you have to go continental for pre-MY84? wiper arms, as you'd be very lucky to find a golden oldie in the scrappers. I'll dig them out later, but from memory the arms I have were made by Bob Bosch and have a number on them. I think the motor was a SWF. 10 yoyos before post is steep though

. I got a parcel shelf, motor, complete linkage & arms for 20 quid. The 3 panes of glass were a tenner each.

Security? Wiper blades get nicked?

Nah

, to stop them flying off down the motorway if the pin becomes unclipped. On about 4 occasions now, I've had to pull over and re-secure the pin in the arm as it had become unclipped and the blade had started to wobble. Having said that, looking again at the picture above, it may be possible that the arm itself is a bayonet fitting with a pin adaptor fitted to the end of it.

Hi Rich.
When i lost one of my pins, i put a small nut and bolt
down through it and it works perfect.
Cheers Mark.

Has happened to me, was also one isolated tiny village where I had to spend night once. There was 2000 people living in area of 1200 sq kilometer, which made event even more unbelieavable.
I don't really remember which kind of attachment there is in my 360 or 343, french crap has hook, I don't think it is pin type in 360, but really can't remember

If you're ever passing by this again please let me know, I'll have a few bits and pieces off that for my GLS.
