Adventures of the volvo kind..
Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
That was good video, narrow roads there too
Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
Easiest oil change of my life, wouldn't be any easier if it had a butterfly nut - threw in so many litres of pish oil I had lying around, the oil in there was 2 shades short of GUNK, I'll do the filters too within a hundred miles but with good oil, not wasting a new filter on asda oil
. Flushed the washee bottle out, refilled with blue stuff, stopped the chattering wiper.. Picked up the "big bits".. about to do the carpets, there's a Henry wet+dry (Charles) I'm trying not to use...
I've got Volvo OCD.
It's still not uber steady at idle, going to do the carb gasket, check compression and get a few bigger/smaller jets.. have a see.
I think I'll make a killing running a garage.

I cut my teeth round that track in all manner of shitboxes. IT is properly narrow. There is no good reason for that road, it doesn't go anywhere, there's plenty other roads that go where it goes.. It's just a fun bit of road in an otherwise dull town. It's one of them, like bedgellert.. this place has the "china gardens", cool really, but not, but so uncool it's cool. And it's pretty old now, as old as irn-bru in fact.
Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
Wasn't it the mainstay engine in another car of your acquaintance and thus highly optimised by the manufacturer in terms of power to weight ratio?
Reanult... hmm.. I will check it's history, it deserves it.

Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
I need to check if I can install reliable mount to my current wheels, could show one road here that is road that indeed leads nowehere, there is a loop at end of the road though, but the road itself leads nowhere, it is bit dull straight road though.CBA wrote:I cut my teeth round that track in all manner of shitboxes. There perhaps was once something where road did lead, but history has forgotten what that was.
Only problem is that our roads and my wheels are not producing smoothest ride possible, holding camera on hand produced something like this:

I drive mostly that road these days, until snow becomes too deep, then I have to choose other road.
1.4 motor is good in there too that it does not need frequent belt and tensioner workout, it cuts running costs down a bit.

Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
35mpg without skimping
I'm on a long run soon - I'll fill it and do 100 'economy' motorway miles, 55mpg is the goal.
exhaust and intake gaskets need doing, and the carb could do with skimming as well as a gasket. Tappets.. I'll loosen them all and do them "from scratch".. it wont run as steady as I know it will yet.
A few of the smaller breather pipes, radiator/water pipes are on the edge, thinking of doing steel-braided everything.
will repair the radiator = silver solder and bits of another radiator + radiator paint, service the cooling fan motor.. {Electric motor reconditioning, "someones gotta do it"(TM) .
Not tried the heated seats yet, although I found one of the plugs was disconnected, I reconnected it
and the car didn't set on fire -
it's looking likely they'll both work.
There be nobheads in the street, all pished up and that. please dont kick off near my car!! Please!! no no no!! L/

Heated seats.... that's another thing I never really tested in earnest in 16 years, although I was pretty sure they didn't work!

Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
It's going almost perfectly, it's getting everything it needs.
300 fast miles today, from a full tank it's just* brought the light on.
Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
Wicked work. A heated seats question.... I never knew how to switch them on..... is it forwards for on, backwards for off, or the other way round..... could never make out from the switches and having them pointing either way never seemed to make any difference!

Re: Adventures of the volvo kind..
I get the gaskets tomorrow(today), lucky since it sounds like a hellcat tank race atm....
also have an excess of sheets of carb gasket, with me needing only half a sheet per lifetime so far: Does anyone need some free carb-gasketage?

Your pace of repairs is great inspiration
