For fun on corners you just need some cheap old worn tyres
Seriously, I just discovered what a difference a tyre can make. The car came with retreaded (remould) tyres that were worn to zero and they were slipping in the dry with normal driving. Now with new "real" tyres, it can be driven quite dynamically even in the wet with confidence. The old tyres also made a sound of failing wheel bearings

Maybe if it is one of the very last, but mine was registered in November 88 (made early 88), and got no special treatment...maybe all the extras were dealer options? I notice that despite being a saloon it doesn't have rear head restraints!

Yes, and also no rear seatbelts!!! It must be a market-specific thing, because other cars of that period also didn't have them ('87 VW Golf, for example). However I will install rear seatbelts & head restraints, because I don't feel comfortable carrying people with no seatbelts. But one would expect them to be installed already, after all it's a Volvo!?

No rear seatbelts in my 340 DL when the car was bought (but ok it was in 84...) There is a 340 saloon in a scrap yard here, with beautiful seatbelts, a little bit green, very beautiful, I never saw that before...

You've got it easy putting head restraints in a saloon! Thoughtful Volvo - even the hatches have the cut-outs in the foam for the brackets.
Rear belts...hmm...cost saving? Very odd, I agree...

It's odd that volvos were ever made without belts, at that age anyway! Volvo are renounded for their safety, i dont think they were cost saving, i think the countries rules told volvo not too fit them!

That's a nice oldtimer, bbf, there aren't many 300 series cars of that age around anymore.

Firstly you need to find somewhere to host the pictures. Your ISP probably gives you some webspace which you could use.
Secondly, you need to 'img' button above to insert the image into a post. Push once to 'start' the code, enter the URL of the image, then push again to finish. You should end up with this (without spaces)...
