Nothing too exciting for me...

Head unit = a fairly old JVC effort which I nicked out of my sister's escrot when she went off travelling round the world.

Front speakers = stock Volvo jobs

Rear speakers = top of the range Phoenix Gold 6x9s, probably something like 120 watts, I can't remember, but when I bought them they were joint best in the shop along with the top of the range Alpines.

It sounds pretty good, not going to win one of those 'sound-off' competitions but good enough to keep me entertained, with plenty of 'full-volume-singing-along-enthusiastically-oh-shit-the-guy-in-front-is-watching-in-his-mirror-and-pissing-himself-laughing' action. Come on, we've all been there!

Anyway, the point is, it sounds good enough for the car (if I want REAL sound quality I go in the house ) and the other thing I like about the head unit is...

It lights up green, the same colour (sort of) as everything else! I know it sounds petty but I want it to blend in with the dash at night. I find some other stereos really distracting / annoying when they're a really bright blue, with flashing bits and moving graphics with dolphins swimming about or F1 cars or something all over the screen! I want something which sits there and gets on with its job, making a decent sound and not pretending to be a fruit machine.

Anyhow, that's mine for now, though I'm looking into some upgrade front speakers when I get around to it.

By the way, purely out of interest, has anyone got any pictures of the standard Volvo rear speakers? I understand that they go in the rectangular cut-outs marked in the C-pillar, but I've never seen a car with them fitted and I'd be interested to see what they look like in place?

Head unit is a fairly old Alpine with stacker hook-up. I just have to get the stacker!

Front speakers are standard Volvo.

Rears are 5 1/2" Kenwood's. Cut the plastic and made some spacers up (Thanks for the pointer Foggy)

I agree, the dash should look the right colour. Thats why I got the older Alpine rather than something newer. It just looks better.

And I have to agree with matching colours. I went the other way thou and replaced the dash bulbs with leds.

those were just leds in dashboard?!

its the overdrive button. I dont have a 300 series, I drive a 740.

There are four superbright wide leds in the dash, and then wide angle single leds on each on the switches.

That would explain the extra dial, the fuel and temp on the left and the storage pocket that looked out of place!

Hows the overdrive work? I had a 240 with overdrive but that was Auto. A button on a manual, do you have to clutch and then poress the button or is there a small auto in the as well?

And is that a boost gauge on the top right?

Overdrive works when i hit the button. No need to use the clutch to engage it thou it is recommended to use it when going back into 4th.

And yes, that is a boost gauge in an a pillar pod at the top.
