The engine fits!

Image

Left of the engine will be the place for the turbo. But there is less space than I thougt first. But place enough to make a good manifold. The starter will get it very hot

There realy need to come a airintake in the bonnet....

Image

Like I already knew, the original manifold doesn't fit.

I'm happy, but the rest isn't finished yet.....

Looking good - wow a 340 has loads of room under the bonnet without the heater box.

Looking at the turbo and manifold I recon you would get away with making a small coller up to turn the turbo a little and it chould clear. That would save fabricating a complete manifold.

Making a coller up could be a solution, but I m not satisfied with that. :)

I've painting a bit. This is an example how I thinkin of making the manifold.

I probebly have to change the fuelconection to the tank. The fuelfeed is about 4 mm. The return is about 2 mm. I'm not sure, but I think it is way to small..

Hi David,

Thanks a lot. It is really a challenge to make a quit heavy car fast with a 1.4 8v engine. But that is just why I love it, doing complete different than anybody else. Thanks for the picture man, I see I want to do it a complete another way. I want to use a intercooler, and a Renault 5 GTT carburettor. Have you more information or a topic-link for me?

Hi Fritz!
I'm the builder of the 340 turbo project as you see above.. Nice to see that there are other maniacs trying to scare the 70hp engine up! :D I wonder why you use the renix ignition system? I have swapped to an old fasioned distrubutor from an early 343 with welded "rotating weights" so it should work with turbo pressure. My project is not ready yet, i have to install an electric fuelpump to make it complete and then...... 8)

Hi there Ale!

This engine will be very fast with a turbo. There is a lot availebel for this engine. Other cams, low compression pistons etc.

I kicked the old distributor out of it.I use the renix system from a Renault 5 turbo, special for the turo ofcourse. Besides, it is possibel to connect a knock link to it!! From 85 and on... Renix 209 I believe.

I have further plans for this project.. It won't stay at 120 hp... But that is wat I start with. (A complete stand alone managment is my target!)

But I should make it run and drive it nicely first. Good Luck!

Greetings

Good to hear that you is not satisfied with 120 hp but i am more than happy if i get those numbers!! Hummm, Renix from the renault turbo you say.. Very interesting. I think i have to get one of those so i can get more of my engine. My car is made to run fast on slippery ground ( as snow ) and today it is too weak when the 3:rd gear is lit, so i hope this convertation does the job and put the 300 back at the top on snow in stockholm!! It has to run soon before th snow is gone and today i installed my new fuelpump and btr so i hope it will work this weekend! Cheers!

Hi Mefistofeles,

Thanx. I already joint the club. I saw that topic yesterday. I can't even read a word swedisch, so its very diffecult for me to understand anything. (It was already diffecult to register :P Maybe I will also open a topic there. :)

Hi Ale,

The B14 engine delivers in the Renault 5 GTT a stock 120 horsepower. I used all the parts of the GTT. Besides, I make a better turbomanifold. Good luck in the snow, I wish it would snow here... It's only one day in a year.
That fuelpomp looks good, I use a extern one. (with the GTT fuel pressure regulator.)

Greets..

If fitted the intercooler today with the help of wouter/antiekeradio. Next to the radiator was a nice place to fit it.

Image

I toke that part of steel out with a (slijptol?)

Image

I also fitted a eletrical fan, because it original had a fixed fan to the waterpump.

Image

That thermostatic flap was used to occur a frozen carb. I will fix it in the right position.

The frontend is on...

Image

You almost can't see the intercooler. Thats nice because I want to keep the exterior standard

Not bad isn't it?

Next to that, I also connected the complete cooling system. I have to find a different place for the cooling barrel. I have enough turbo hoses to complete the inlet system. (Thanks to my dealer here) The turbohoses of modern big engines are a right size to use.

I am considering to make the accu in the back in the car. Than I can make a nice cold place for the airfilter..

cheers,
Frits
