LOL, well, yeah, DIY woodwork is good, relaxed and you can take your time. Sadly in my job, tight deadlines, unreliable suppliers, installations in central London, and all sorts of other things kill the fun sometimes. It does give you an enormous amount of satifaction when you can stand back from a job when it's done and see the end result. To think it came in as a few planks of wood, and sheets of material, and leaves the workshop as a completed reception desk etc is sometimes odd!

It's often strange to think what you'd be doing if you weren't doing the job you are now, if you ever came to a cross road in life and went one way instead of taking another opportunity, maybe posting those would be interesting too. Like Sven360 said, a decision he's glad he made now with a certain job! I think I'd have probably still beeen doing manual work of some sort. I did think about becoming a Roof Thatcher, as locally there are a lot of really old cottages and buildings with thatched roofs and it's something very different. I do enjoy working on cars, but it'd have to be kept as a hobby, as I know too many people who do it for a living and have no interest in it as a hobby for their own cars now. I suppose it's a bit like me and woodwork, I work on wood and play with cars in my free time, while others might work on cars and play with woodwork at the weekends!

I think I would have ended up being a mechanic, but my Dad (who is one) kinda banned me from doing it!

Still, he's just setting up his own MoT station, so I'm getting involved in that. Not exactly the same, but hey ho, at least I can still be part of it.

That's Dads new philosophy - reckons he's too old for the fixing stuff malarky (although he will still be doing some of that too I expect).

Means I get use of a fully loaded workshop - four poster ramp, gas analyser, brake tester, tyre machine and balancer etc so I'm happy enough

There isn't a fixed rate, I don't think. £35-40 seems to be the national average.

£35.00 here too (just as well as I have put four cars through in two months )

There's a maximum you can charge which is £44.15 I believe, as I'm pretty sure that's what we charge at work (for cars).

From what Dad was saying a couple of weeks ago I think it's going up to around £50 sometime soon.

I get mine for £30

Our family using the same MOT station for 20yrs has its advantages

It's already gone up - as of Jan 1st it's £52, but I still got mine done on Sat for £40.

its been about £52 for a few months now down here!

a friend who works for the council got his chevette done at work for £22. mines going in this month,hope it doesnt need much for a pass.......
