It will not fit with the 1.7 carb inlet manifold. The exhaust pipes get in the way and will not clear

Well, today we tested the 345 properly. Tried to tune it and swap renix units until the idle looked good.

The result is very disapointing...

The idle is still high, the idle jet adjusting screw doesn't do much to tune it properly and the engine is very shakey. It doesn't show good power either.

The only fault I can think of is either the Valve clearances or the free exhaust. The engine was hot so I couldn't check the clearances properly today but I'll check it tomorrow.

What can I check to make it run correctly? the engine is fully standard apart from the Renault 21 camshaft and fully open exhaust (just a small pipe after the manifold)

The other problem we're encountering is the brakes. When we swaped the struts we installed a set of late 340 calipers. The pedal only has some effect on the brake at the bottom so I suspect there must be diferences in the diameter of early and late style calipers. Is this true?

Tomorrow I'll dig out the original calipers and install them back to see if this problem is solved.

I appreciate any help! Thanks!

Hey guys!!

it's been 6 months since my last post! Time for an update!

The car hasn't moved very much!!
The engine doesn't offer a lot of performance and we had to think what could be wrong with it. Then the garage were the car lives lost it's electrical supply. It was very difficult to work there due to the lack of natural light... :(

In January we were able to get back to the 345 and repaired the original B17 camshaft to try out the engine.
We also got some aluminium blocks and longer M10 bolts...

Last weekend we picked up the spanners and putted the 345 on jack stands. 340pw

The rear suspension was lowered with the help of the longer bolts and aluminium blocks and the original camshaft was fitted back to the engine.

It runs sweet at idle but it stutters when it revs past 2000rpm. The Renix unit fitted is from a Renault 21. We have to fit the original Volvo coil. Next weekend we'll finish it. Hope the engine we get back to it's former glory...

Don't have any pics here but I'll post them tomorrow...
