series 2a lightweight, one of 600 made in the 60s very few left, never seen another one in road usable condition.

Jap stuff with acceptable quality interiors are only now starting to become usably cheap for many people. Modern Accords have nice interiors, for example. 80s and 90s Jap offerings are just horrible to be in...plasticky dashes and uncomfortable seats...and I can think of very few exceptions. The design of Volvo's 2/7/900 series interiors (and, to be fair, the mk1/mk2 300 series dash) may be poor, but at least the materials are good quality and the seats are excellent.
They also don't do particularly well in terms of rustproofing and general longevity. They're usually excellent (better than anything else) up to say 10 years, but tend to start falling apart rapidly after that. Corollas used to score well on the JD Power surveys, but I saw any number of them 10 years old with horrible rust and random electrical problems. There are more examples...
Obviously those are all generalisations, but...
I quite like Landys, so I'm not going to bash you for it...but...my memory of my mate's S2 was that is was pretty...er...nasty...for everyday use. Awful ride, bad handling, slowwwww.....and possibly the most fun I've ever had on four wheels under the right circumstances. Sounds like the sort of logic usually applied to Alfa Romeo ownership

Have you read or seen anything to do with modern Kia's? The new C'eed and Pro C'eed are actually very good cars. I'm guessing your preconceptions come from the late 90's/early 2000's.
Perhaps the only car manufacturer offering a 100,000 mile 7 year warranty at the moment too?

considering this started out as a feeler for a car sale , it has become quite a good topic .
land rovers do what they are meant for well
a utilitarian off road vehicle with very few creature comforts which ( lets face it ) are only any good ON road if they are strapped to the back of a trailer on there way somewhere.
The Nissan patrol, for one ,manages to combine that with on road speed and comfort plus it can carry up to 10 people ( some safari models ).
My camry is a 98 model and yes it has leather and a wood dash but for £1500 ,considering the other extras it came with ,made it a steal
the number plate ( although it has no meaning to me) ,is valued at £500 on its own. we have had it a year now and all its cost me are tyres and brake pads which are consumables on any car,
My Hyundai trajet is the most capable people carrier I have ever driven , ok the seats dont go under the floor like the zafira but the only zafira to compete with the model I have is the GSi which was a lot more expensive and is much smaller inside .
As I said the jap cars are better when you balance everything up i.e. price , reliability, warranty etc.
the rust issues of some earlier cars seem to have been erradicated on later models
yes, they can be beaten in some areas but unlikely on all as a package.
what I mean is , a ferrari or bugatti veyron might beat a nissan skyline.
but at what cost

Man makes a good point, the Kia Rio hire car I had was very good aside from a very special steering rack (imagine notched centre point, guess the ackerman wasn't correct in design)
Ben, I won't offer for a car but have been looking at landy's for a while. A friend has a S3 lightweight that he doesn't have driveway space for, so "looking after" rights are passed around every year or two. If it was bargainous I'd think about it though

Hope you dont have many motorway miles to run though man. Landys are good at what theyre good for, and a horrible nightmare if youve a long way to hump.

Sounds like a belter if youre trialing or rock crawling like. Ultimate boys toy. Maybe that plan should move up the list a couple of hunred places.

Would the number plate be a better seller than SAD which didn't seem to set the world alight?
I'd take a Voyager over a Hy and dry Tragic any day.In fact I did Mrs Sven drives it.

Now I have heard good things about the Cee'd, but to make it worth it, you'd have to drive the damn thing for 7 years, and that's a long time to have everyone know you couldn't afford a Golf.
The Camry is a good buy...as is the Lexus LS400...one of the UK Tbrickers has just got one as a daily beater, and I'm envious...but...that money would also get you certain European equivalents of the same vintage which will be just as reliable. I'm not saying the European cars are any better, but they're a viable alternative.
Chris...I'd be willing to pay a little more attention, but you thought the City Rover was quite good
Steve...my conclusion? Kia Picanto. Fail...
