YEAH BOYEEEE!
I hope the show's as good as last year, I wasn't allowed into the showground (even though I had dr1ft 155/13s on the back, WTF?). But if 3 of us arrive they'll have to let us in to lower the tone.

OapEM wrote:Yeah mate I would like to but unfortnately CF sheeting is a rip off these days. As you say it is down to F&F lol. I am keeping an eye out though, can't fit works panels as I initially thought, because their rear wheel tub means the doors have had to be modified too  If you see any sheeting going without JDM tuner y0 scene tax then please let me know mate! 340pw
Yeah, looks to be silly at these days, over £100 for one door alone, that is 3 times the price it once was or then my memory is misleading me

Nope I think you are right mate. At one stage it was very reasonably priced. Looks like perspex/ally sheeting for me and maybe a carbon film, there's a few decent ones.

Update for B & J - damn those initials don't go well

As said earlier, I want the car to have it's original look so persuaded my mate to swap boot lids/rear bumpers earlier than he had planned. We would have swapped outer tail lights today too, but due to me disecting one to fill with LEDs there is only one he can use lol
Image
I aint gona miss them lol. Never looked right and although they are 'euro' they look dated in my eyes - probably sick of seeing them lol
Looking daft from all angles for now

Boot loom stripped down to essentials
Image

More for the bin/bay
Image
Unsure on aero catch placement, although I prefer the left - right mounting the most. I also need to still be able to access their locks when I find a spoiler
Image
Image
Here's how I intend the boot to look
Image
As can be seen it doesn't need much work to look like the STC cars
Image
Spoiler/Grab handle & lock to be removed and holes welded up. I will flush mount no. plate lights like the one below
Image
Damn I wish I had kept that JDM boot lid now because as can be seen, the UK boot is anything but flat beneath the grab handle
Image
I may yet leave the lumps and bumps and just weld up the holes, although I would prefer it smooth.
Final gay pic - this colour combo is growing on me. Bad I know
Image

This week/weekend I will sort the boot out. Bumper is only being used so I can line up the tow eye that I will be fitting.

My project moves like a glacier man

Aye new (old) boot is miles better. I will get another of the facelift ones and the lights too but will only smooth over the handle this time. The handle would be at home on an American fridge FFS lol

Closer to resembling how it left the factory now. Square FTW. We do like angles on here lol

Cheers matey 340pw

Looking sweet man, i love older touring cars like these. What are your plans paint wise? you going for a complete replica like all vinyls and everything?

Cheers matey! Aye, the super tourers were the business I agree! Paint wise it is going to be a very bright white for the shell/rims/cage. With parts in bare carbon - splitter, spoiler lip etc. I have no plans to have the works livery on it, but if it ends up looking decent, I may (highly unlikely) get the flyling helmet logo down the quarters/doors from the Championship winning cars.

Like the car below, as said though I'm undecided. I'm not a big sticker fan, and I really like race cars (or race look) in pre season/sponsor bare paint lol. Plus I am not trying to make an out and out replica as it will only look shoddy. I want to put my own stamp on 'the look'
Image

Done a bit yesterday. Aeros fitted.

Strike pin gos through where one of the original bump stops were
Image
Image
Can see here where the catch was fouling the inner skin. A couple of sharp chisel blows and the clearance issue was soon sorted.
Image
Looks decent where visible IMO. I nitially considered cutting a section out. Can just see at the bottom of the pic where it's been hammered out. Strangely it's twice the width of a cold chisel lol
Image
Fitted - still need to bolt in but the holes cut are almost perfect so it is a good tight fit anyway.
Image
Image
Image

Then I went up to see a mate but he wasn't in so I turned my attention to hollowing out the boot. I don't think the garage wanted me to though lol
Image
Not bad IMO for just the grinder and a little ghey clip on bulb light as the main garage lights had fused at the time but I didn't want to stop lol
Image
For the win. I mean bin.

More mincing next time 340pw

I can has plastic windows :D

I have had to use 5mm polycarbonate to make my windows as the original glass was over 4mm, and my mate who ordered me the sheet can only get 3mm or 5mm. So 5mm it is. Nowhere near as awkward to make as I expected.

The original glass has a wicked curve so I clamped the poly down to acquire the correct shape.
Image
Don't have enough left to make the rear window lol - typical.
Image
Image
Image
Thinner glass here. Made this from 3mm the other week
Image

I'm waiting on another sheet (A3) of 3mm polycarbonate to make my other side 1/4 window and I also need to work out how I am going to bolt the 5mm to the window frames. I initially was going to affix it at that bottom, to the inner door skin but the sheet actually bows out and there isn't much or a chanel at the top of the window rubber to prevent that.

So I will be attaching them using this method.
Image
Anyone know where to get the correct fixings from? Don't really want to nut and bolt it when it is on show.

It looks like the front window in that car won't go fully up but if it did, it would have holes that locate into pins in the clip that is under the rubbers, like the rear window.

I want. lol
