Got the cable completely out with bloody great difficulty. Will immerse it in oil for a few hours. Will see if that super clever trick does any good!

Got the cable out of the jar of oil after 5 days  Just been busy with Uni. It worked! The cable is definitely moving freely and smoothly now. Will get it fixed tomorrow and give an update.
Trying to get hold of another cable was virtually impossible :(

I'll have you know that I've started having creaking when pressing the clutch. Hopefully it' s just a lubrication problem.

Car now fully sorted :D 340pw

Left it untouched for like 4 weeks because of exams. Had to resort to taking the bus like a Peasant. Got a universal throttle cable from ebay (£11) and cut it to my specification. Fairly straightforward process but just very fidgety and awkward. I think patience will be vital with these cars .
Also, car wouldnt start because the earth braid/strap from the battery had come loose and was basically not attached to anything. The starter motor was missing 2 bolts :o so it was basically held by one! Got the earth strap back where it was supposed to be and secured the starter motor. I noticed a certain sound (clearly an unhealthy one) missing now and I'm sure its down to the starter motor being nicely secured.

Trouble free motoring now.....hopefully

Got Val fully serviced and MOT'd on the 28/7/2010. It passed with no advisories

The full service worked wonders too! The car feels so much more smoother and responsive in every gear. It didnt have a fuel filter  so got one fitted.

Prior to the MOT, Val was leaking a lot of engine oil from the sump :( I thought I would have to get a new cork sump gasket. Turned out just the sump bolts needed tightening. She leaks no more.

Now that my car is tax'd, MOT'd and running smoothly, I had to fulfill my dream of a custom exhaust system for Val

Got a quote for £300 form Preston Exhaust Centre with a lifetime transferable warranty. I knew that was cheap. I think the price was mainly down to the simplicity of the old car, old engine (no cat) and the technician told me that there was plenty of space underneath. He said it will be fairly straight forward to build and fit the system. I guess being old and simple does have its perks :D

My new aftermarket custom exhaust system for my 1988 Volvo 340 1.4 B14E. (Just trying to aid the universal search of V3M :D )

2inch bore (stock was 1.5 inches I think. Was advised to not go any bigger for my engine) stainless steel system starting from the downpipe. 3inch slash cut burnt tip with an angled exit. Just the one silencer for the full system  All hangers for the system were custom built and fitted to the stock slots.

£300 for the system inc VAT,fitting, and lifetime warranty. Built and fitted in 5 hours
