Re: Derrick the Volvo! (p21 more pics!)
Nice one guys cheers!
Managed to half do the rev counter today. However fried the radio, so no more tunes for the time being.
Ah well. I'll get the counter fully working tomorrow.
In the mean time I managed to get some more pics. This place is an abandoned warehouse near my home town where I've done previous shoots before, but the gate has been locked. Conveniently, the gate was unlocked (read - broken in to) this time, so I could get my car in. Awesome.

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (p21 more pics!)
Nice one lads cheers!
Just got back from download 2011. Epic stuff. Drive down was a blast, bar some frightful wheel balancing issues! Pendulum, Black stone cherry, korn, linkin park, thin lizzy, System of a down, just freaking wicked.
Anyway, the drive back however was a little different. Really annoying squeak form the passenger side rear suspension, vibration from door cards etc, and a real nasty scraping noise when costing, when having either 1st, 2nd or 3rd selected. Thrust bearing rattle/noise when in neutral too and clutch engaged. For crying out loud.
Guess what my job for tomorrow is?

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Switch panel/oil cooler)
Whilst having a clear out of the garage, my Dad found an oil cooler kit he bought for an MGB eons ago, but never fitted. I stole it off him (asked) and will make good use of it! Just need to get a thermostat so the oil doesn't get over cooled while running normally.
Its pretty retro, but everything is there, and still in good nick.

Whats inside

This is where its going to go, behind the grill, in front of the rad. Nothing has been bolted down yet, as I need to make up some brackets to fit it where I want it to go.

Also, I made up a plate that will house switches, a warning light for the oil pressure and the horn push. The switches will be for the ECU and fuel pump.

It sits here. Far left hole for the oil pressure warning light, and the right hole for the horn.

Aaaand a random engine bay shot for good measure

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Switch panel/oil cooler)
Ha ha. Cheers VND. The panel'll be painted black when I get round to it, so it won't be as "brash" and in yer face.
I'm chuffed with the way it came out though. Gotta love Uni parts bins.

This is how the panel looks now. Wrapped in a plastic vinyl, as I couldn't find any paint. Its a little more scratch resistant too.

Tested the switches and lamps and they work. Still just waiting on the other bits. Tomorrow is going to be spent machining the coolant pipe bracket out of ali.

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Switch panel/oil cooler)
Managed to make and fit the bracket out of ali, does the job well! Not the tidiest of jobs, still looks good. Its under the bonnet, so I'm not too bothered.
Lathing up the clamp

Finished

Fitted

Nice and light and stiff.
Also got the switch panel fitted and working. had to swap the stickers over, as the on/off seemed to be the wrong way round. Also couldn't get the little lamps to work. I can have lamps, but no power to pump or ECU. Ah well, I'll get it sorted soon. Either way I think it looks epically awesome.

I did think the warning light would be a little bigger, woops
And some better than masking tape labels for the fuse box.
