Derrick the Volvo! Update P47
Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Prop shaft fail)
Ah! Genius! I have some in the car, I'll do that now. Cheers lad!
I should have weighed it to see how much it was compared, but its not the heaviest. It's nice to have a knob that fits in my hand well . . .

My my what a big knob you've got
Looks quality
Chris, yes my prop did pretty much look like that, think i put pics in my car thread. Well if it was the mounts they have since been replaced so hopefully all will be well.

ha ha! How did I not notice this? Had to be said eh?magnumpi wrote:My my what a big knob you've got![]()
Minor update of the century - I found some poly urethane at uni, and made a shim for the gear knob. Nice tight fit on the lever now. Great.

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Prop shaft fail)
Got a replacement prop that should turn up tomorrow off Theo, so to celebrate imminent road goingness again, I tidied Derrick up a little. Handbrake cables done, clean seats and new dymo stickers for the switch panel. Need to re-paint some parts like the wing mirrors and bonnet though, good ol' stone chips!

I thought "ejector seat" looked a bit better than "horn"

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Prop shaft fail)
Cheers guys! Glad you like it!
Chris, I haven't unfortunately mate. I need the car tomorrow, so I fitted the prop today. I double checked everything over, and went for a test drive, everything was peachy. It's only for tomorrow though. I'm still on the look out for one though. Why'd you ask? Do you have one?

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Prop shaft fail)
I'll have a borrowable one soon ish in the future, but will need it replaced. Thing is, a screwed spline on the shaft will kill the prop splines, which in turn will screw the next shaft spline :s

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Prop shaft fail)
yeah. my intention was to replace both at the same time , but since i need the car on the road for, it ll have to suffice. when i find a replacement clutch shaft, ill hopefully have enough dosh to get a custom prop made up. otherwise ill replace both shaft and prop with standard items.

Re: Derrick the Volvo!
Cheers Chris, I'll give you a shout mate. Chances are I'll have it off you, as its looking like I won't find one in the near future, we'll see. What's the bearing conversion you're doing?
The new prop got me to sliverstone and back no problems, so massive thanks to Theo for getting it to me on time! Formula student was the event, only me and 2 of my mates went this year, due to being abandoned by the rest of the team mates at the last minute. They missed out! Fantastic time, out uni didn't come last year either, considering we had 2 weeks to prepare.
The paddock and everywhere was open, so I got a load of shots of the car, as well as inspiration for our car that should be built in time for next year. Some of the cars were fantastically engineered. I've never been before so it was a real experience and eye-opener. Teams from as far as AUS turned up, people with army tents, full working bars, army trailers for sleeping in, tour buses, everything was there!
Lots of my car

Anyway, some FS cars and stuff . . .

These guys came all the way from the gaza strip!! Fair achievement!!

Theres a load more on my photobucket if anyone wants a gander. Loads of alternative fuel cars too, so hydrogen and battery powered etc. Just awesome.

Re: Derrick the Volvo! (Silverstone & Formula Student P26)
Forumla student looks great, I joined our team but i didnt really like the people (massive nerds) and they didnt seem to do it for motorsport, just to show off how clever they were, I could have read them wrong though aha!. Will try and join again I think when I enter my third year. Did you hear much from Swansea university (not Swansea met) ?
