No mate. Technically you would get more for just the bare shell, as 'clean metal' but ask Filthyjohn where that gets you! We took a totally bare 205 shell to be weighed in and the idiotic bloke said it wasn't de-polluted, just stripped. LOL. Err if it's stripped there is nothing to pollute. dumbass!
However, yards expect cars to be complete, right down to the fluids in the engine and the battery in the tray. It's their responsibility to make sure they're clean when they are 'recycled'.

That 940 had polystyrene and all sorts of crap in it. Two hobs and an oven lol. All the rubbish I could find and all of it's bumpers, dash, seats etc etc. Whatever puts the weight up FTW!

Yesterday saw attention switch to the 360, to get it stripped and see how big this mountain is that needs climbing. lol

A visit from John and Gareth to collect some wheels (we still forgot the one in my wheel well!) saw some easy assistance to remove the dash - cheers boys! I guess I don't have any pics of that. It's not majorly important atm, but I thought it may as well come out.

Hopefully it won't be living here for too long!


Then in the evening Mark and I collected Ron in Marks van, as we all know I'm carless now lol. After some initial mincing by me, on the phone to Richie to sort out the courier for the flywheel I bought from Pyro (cheers to two more people!) we made good progress on removing everything in the way, that was stopping the engine coming out. Then thanks to Micks crane (cheers mate! lol) we were ready to lift.

I've been restoring some dignity back to my engien bay today.

The concourse crew need not worry, Carplan degreaser and a paint brush/dish brush FTW. lol

Luckily, Mick was working just around the corner and helped me push the car outside. Engine out or not, that welded diff makes it hard work solo!

Dunno if I have any before pics, but it was covered! Right up the inner wings, the back of the frotn panel, steerign rack, subframe, ARB, bell housing etc etc were caked.
Much better now. Like I say it isn't gonna win any prizes, but at least it will be less of a PITA to work on the bottom of the engine etc. and easier to spot potential leaks.

I removed the heater box too, as it looks like it will be in the way and will no doubt require modifying to fit accomodate the dizzy from the B230.

We cracked on with the engines after taking 5 and grabbing some chips in this stunner.

That's about it. Tomorrow the flywheel should be here, and IIRC John says he has a new B200 water pump I can buy (which I need) so will fit that and swap the oil pick ups and sumps over (see what surprises awit me there!) I also need to order a round tooth timing belt.
I would have had the other engine mount off the B19 tonight, but the oil filter is in the way, so will have to wait until tomorrow.

Are you going to use the 360 Engine side bracket? Surely this can't be used with the 940 sit on type? or do you just mean on the LHS.

For the turbo side I've estimated there is just enough space for the 940 bracket and mount, but its that tight that any custom chassis side bracket needs a hole/gap in it to clear the side of the mount casing.

I haven't had a chance to compare the two yet mate. Will do that today.

First thoughts are maybe to bin the hard pipe for the feed/return (I forget which) in favour of a braided line, which should enable the 360 mount to be used and the oil filter returned to the B19 position.

Its the return. The pipe is only secured at the turbo and uses a rubberband type seal at the block, so it needs a rigid pipe. You may need to tap the block or something to secure a flexible line. I thought the Turbo was in the way, not just the oil feed return. Just checked it and the wastegate actuator is in the way. I measure 10" from the top of the head to the 360 engine mount top (excluding the stud sticking out, and raised sides). 10" on the 940 brings you half way down the wastegate control, but its hard to get the full 3D picture, you might be able to trim off some of the 360 Engine mount, and maybe add some strengthening, but it may still hit the wastegate arm or something. It all just looks too close, even if it did fit there may not be enough clearance to stop banging.

With the 940 engine out you should try the 360 engine mount on (engine side bracket+mount+chassis side bracket) below the turbo.

Regarding moving the oil filter, the 940 has a water/oil exchange cooler I think. You may need an after market remote flexible kit.

Right, not as much acheived yesterday as hoped. However, still progress. This is gonna be a condensed update with bits missing no doubt, cos I CBA and need to go out shortly for more parts.

The B19 oil pick up was fitted to the B230 though, and the sump will be also (awaiting gasket, should be in today around 2pm) The dipstick tube also has to be swapped over.

The end crank bearings (IDK name) need to be removed and swapped over to match with the input shaft on the bell housing.

A bit of improvisation from Ronnie thanks to my lack of slide hammer and we're sorted!

This was a bit of a fart on. The PCD on the fly is symmetrical so we were unsure on how to fit it. Some Googling from Conor and a phone home/parental walk through a 240 Haynes and we got there lol.

The O/S engine mount from the B19 fits. It clears the turbo oil feed and wastegate etc. The only thing in the way is the oil return.

This will be modified today. Then I will grab some better pics.

It should be in the bay today. Fingers crossed!

Have you considered tapping the block on the drivers side above the sump? There's a solid circular looking boss on there that people often tap a thread into and use a flexi oil drain hose

I'd love to do this conversion on the Mk 1 I got last year. I've got a spare 360 lying around (ex foggy's collection) for parts, rear axle, transmission etc etc. I'm watching this thread very closely, looks like quite a bit of work but well worth it when it's done, great work so far!

The day started when mark collected me (as usual! colonthumbs) so I could get some parts. x1 metre length of sliicone hose (which says Go APE on it) lol. x1 Volvo B230 sump gasket and after a trip to Halfords, a smaller diameter oil filter, which turns out to be for a Ford Ka.

Oil return sorted. This will be improved in the future, but it's up to the job for now. (Yes I used hose clips!)



Two dipsticks lol. The reason for this is that the B230 one won't reach the B19 sump and the B19 dipstick tube enters via the sump, not the block like the B230. So the B230 is there purely to plug the hole.


B19 (/B200?) clutch on LH2.4 flywheel.


The bellhousing needs a section removed from it to clear the B230 crank position sensor. As can be seen, on my car the B19 CPS is bolted to the bell housing, whereas on the B230 it is bolted to the block.

The water pipes for the turbo housing need a bit of re-bending to clear things, but we're there now.

It seems as though the turbo housing is going to hit the engine mounting bracket when the engine rocks, but I think I will remove it and grind the lip away and see how it is then. If it's still crap I will cut a section out and triangulate it to regain the original strength.
