Probably a bit big for 300 series use, but I found some in the classified ads in the new issue of PPC mag. One pair of weber DCOE 50s and one pair of weber DCOE 55s. £550 per pair brand new. The mag only arrived yesterday(subscription) and possibly isn't in shops yet so they're probably still up for grabs. The contact number given is 07970 724218.
In the same issue, a pair of Dellorto 40s, mint, £380. number for that one is 07867 840819
Don't forget to mention 'Practical Performance Car' magazine if you call about any of them.

You can pick up Solex ADDHE's like mine for peanuts (easily for £50 in a servicable condition), and they're perfectly good - just ignore what almost every 'old timer' will tell you - to stick them in a bin a get DCOEs or DHLAs.

You can't get parts for them like you can the Weber and Dellorto carbs, but jets are easily drilled, and off the shelf emulsion tubes are unlikely to be correct.

I think I'm allowed to show off a little, since we're talking about sidedrafts on a 300...

Yup, due to poor tuning (yeah...yeah...should have been sorted months ago), my bottom end sucks major balls....I demand a rematch from 3000rpm ;) Why do you think I don't drive the damn thing every day.

Then again, if I drove it every day, I'd probably be more motivated to fix it...and have more free time, as I wouldn't have a "works just fine" 240 to be a maintainance drama queen. sm56

that's 'works just fine' as in 'a heap of junk' then?

hmm bit pricey tbh. how about retrofitting some bike carbs? wouldnt that be a lot cheaper if i got some off ebay for £100 or so? what work would be involved to fit them and how would they perform compared to dellorto/weber?

Really depends if you could get them set up well enough. I havn't ever looked into bike carbs, but a lot of the cars I've seen with them have run quite rough. You need to be able to get the right sized jets for your engine (or be confident in drilling, soldering up the old ones) to make it work. Oh, and add be knowledgable to know what to drill! Plenty of books out on the subject, just got to wade through the cr*p that is always said about them.

If you are looking at a 2L engine, I wouldn't go bigger than 40mm carbs, otherwise you arn't going to be able to idle at normal speed. Fitting wise, you need a manifold, to go between the engine and whatever flange is on the carbs, which Dai says his mate can make for you, but being custom, it'll probably cost more than the car again (not that thats ever stopped most of us...)

Get the car, see what you think - leave the mod's til you're used to it (and can actually afford to insure them, as I have doubts that you will be able to get an insurance company to insure you on a modified car being a new driver)

I got temp insurance at the mo so i am driving (finally!) but how long it'll last i dont know, I'm slowly fiddling with the carb settings cos it a bit hit and miss at the moment (like my mechanical skills)

You can run 45s perfectly happily on a 2.0. 40s are a nice size...maybe a touch small for a race tune engine...just fine for road use though. I'd run the Solexs....they're nice carbs, and because of the stigma attached to them, they go for peanuts. Manifolds for 40mm carbs go for about £150 from a couple of sources in Scandanavia.

thanks for all the info guys, i really appreciate all your help.

i was just thinking of having the 360 as a track car. it would be parked by my garage (maybe with a big cover over it) with only road tax on it, and then i would use it only for track days. i would only put track day insurance on it though, so it will just lay there with all the mods done to it until i need to use it.

so whats all this about solex's being crap? please go into further detail...

edit: also regarding cams - what can be done there? is it possible to get one and how much?

cheers guys im off to the job centre now

I believe (athough I may be wrong) that they have recently changed the rules regarding tax, and you now have to have insurance on any car that is licenced for on-road use, i.e. when you take a car off the road you have to SORN it at the same time as removing the insurance. One of these things to fail to catch insurance dodgers while making life harder for those of us who obey the rules....

Not sure how that works, you do need road insurance to buy road tax, but why do you want raod tax if it's a track car?

Either you'll trailer it to the track, or you'll need both tax, MOT AND insurance to be able to drive it there

ah yeh scrap that idea i wasnt thinking.

but i just got a new quote today for a 360 gle - £1009.80 full comp

or i could go for rims, exhaust, and suspension declared - £1195.87 full comp

or TPFT with the mods declared and £0 excess it comes to £1002.45

thats pretty good if you ask me. although i might go down the route of becoming a named driver, which would be cheaper still.

looks like i can turn this car into a daily driver as well as a track car :P

best not get ahead of myself because i still need to pass that test next month!!!
