The main problem with 0-60 times is that they rely too much on power from rest, not mid-range pull, and gearing - some cars need a 2nd to 3rd shift just before 60 that slows the time by a second or two.
A 1/4 mile allows such factors to be less important and allows the mid-range grunt of the diesel to come into play.

Could I backtrack a little and ask a basic simple question (Forgive me, I once owned a Mini Metro (Mk2!!!) )

What wheels will fit a 300 series? Volvo or otherwise, preferably keeping the same 14"rim size

Ta :)

If you want something a bit more modern than the 300 series rims, I'd take a look at the 400 series ones - there are literally dozens of styles, although only a few are common.

Just fine, provided that you can afford the low profile tires that are needed to get the circumference back to whats needed.

17s can be fitted and retain the original wheel size if you use skinny enough tyres...but 16s are probably a better choice :)

that was what i was thinking as well James - its gonna be hard enough turning the bugger with 195/50/16s let alone 215/45/17s.

and 17s on smallish cars can end up looking like a 4wd as well!!!

Not being funny but shouldnt the profile of 195tyres on 16 inch rims be 45 and down to 40 on the 17's?
Its just i run 195 50 15's and according to a conversion chart on the Toyo website that exactly compares to the overall size of 13" rims? sm14

Yes, those numbers look a bit high. I think Al was running 205/35/17s on his GLT to retain the stock diameter. I've been told that wider than 205 with stock diameter = rubbage...but that's unproven. Al needed to do some surgery to avoid rubbing, but I'm not sure if his rims had the correct offset.

cheers
