Oh, and I've just ordered an engine hoist from Screwfix, or rather one has just arrived today. But it arrived in two packets that the guy delivering it had trouble lifting.
Now I've put it together, it weighs over 100Kg and even on the wheels, its difficult to manoeuvre around. Erm so I don't think I could bring it with me...
so I don't know how we'd get the engine off and lift it into my boot.

I reckon we should be able to get it out of the donor car by hand as Foggy suggests - the problem will be getting it in your car without damage ( to the car!)
Could you beg steal or borrow an escort van or similar for the day: even hiring one shouldn`t be too expensive if you`re over 25. If I`m honest, I wouldn`t relish trying to get a spare lump in the back of my 340.....
Its a good suggestion Will, but I'm 24, and I don't know anyone with a van. Erm, if we're strong enough to lift it out of the car, then surely we are strong enough to get it into my saloon 360 ?!?
"Erm, if we're strong enough to lift it out of the car, then surely we are strong enough to get it into my saloon 360 ?!?"
We should be able to physically lift it , but I was a bit more concerned about manouvering it into the boot of your saloon with out dinting paintwork around the edges. I don`t imagine this will be an issue with the donor car!. Could get a bit of chipboard down in your boot to protect the floor and pad round with some carpet .
I think a hatch would be better, as you could fold the seats down, and with some protection like a board underneath, could keep the weight towards the centre of the car too. I will try to remove most of the front of the donor car to make removal easier. It may be possible that I can get the tractor to lift it out, then it's down to us lifting it from there into the car, due to tailgate etc being in the way! Now.....onto other details such as when is best! Let me know by email mate and I can send some decent directions!

Well, the car hasn't moved in a while, so a trailer is the only option, which I dont have unless pettaw is willing to pay fuel and trailer hire! It is an option, which is why I offered the whole shell and engine. From what Foggy says it shouldn't be too difficult with enough of us, and if I can get the tractor close enough to the car to lift it out, the hardest part is out of the way, meaning we can get to it, to get hold of it. Good plan anyhow!
