Re: Photos
I love that top one Steve! I went to the West Somerset Railway this weekend, I'll see if I have any good ones later.

Re: Photos

Cullercoats Metro station and a shoddy one from the front of the Metty on a fronsty Good Friday Morning.
Re: Photos
I was testing a bit, leaving subject partially outside of frame is not necessarily bad thing.

I'm having issues with noise, loads of that when shooting at ISO800 and there just is not enough light to shoot sharp shots with ISO400.
Also I have issues with CPL filter for bigger lens, no matter what all photos seem to come blurred when I use it, even when focusing things do look bit of blurred, might need to get another one of that would make a difference.
Here everything is gray currently so not much to shoot at, except birds. Maybe time to get tripod out and do some weird night photos
Edit: Here is some colour:

I have no idea what is his problem:

Those are awesome Jani!
Don't forget that the more lens you use the more light you'll need (the numbers on my lens corresponds to half or a third of a stop of light) as well as a CPL filter also stealing a load of light, I think mine is 2 stops.
It wasn't just running the shutter really slow was it?

Re: Photos
No, 1/500 still makes everything unsharp, even on tripod and with remote launcher, I had to test it as First I thought too that it was because of slower shutter, but it just is like lot of blur applied, even focusing is difficult when one can't see sharp image and automatic fails totally with that lens, even without CPL.Chris_C wrote:Those are awesome Jani!

It's really odd lens in many ways, as with 70mm I need to use slower shutter than with 300mm, depends a bit from what I shoot as colour affects a lot to light meter with that lens. Then autofocus is pretty much useless, sometimes it just does not do anything, it just sits there silent, then I need to put it to manual, turn focus ring, put to auto and then it starts to focus, or sometimes it is enough to point it far far away or very very close to make it wake up, so I use mostly manual focus with that. D40's autofocus seem to be fail in many other times too, it just does not find lock, for example when I took photos from underside of my car, I had to put sometimes finger to car bottom, then it understood, but sharp horizontal shapes at car bottom were not enough. Manual focusing there was not possible, oh and this was with kit lens 18-55mm.
That has kept camera on self quite a bit as there are quite some situations where autofocus would be nice, oh and chromatic abbreviation with longer lens, makes it perfectly useless when shooting something on bright background, for example that red bird, it has gray stripe on it's tummy, which should not be there, it was originally glowing bluishred, but I could only make it go gray so all other parts of photo would not be glowing like being radio active.
It is better when summer comes, but at winter time, specially at spring I loose pretty much all interest to take photos because of those problems. Maybe I should start to find new lens or camera, just being at looking for job mode does not really help, should be better at autumn.

Its maintained by volunteers and a lot of work goes into that little cove.
if you want to run a beach, theres whitley bay about 1 mile up the coast. thats a sh!thole.
I'd do a donald campbell impersenation up there. In someone elses car mind.
Re: Photos
This one is not so nice as original one, but easier to navigate for sure, had to resize less than 50% size of original to be able to upload and it got all details lost, imo
Well original was 16696x1712, don't know service that has such nice interface and still would let me upload that in full detail.

^Click that
For next one I might take longer lens and do some silly pixel shot, but I'm not sure if my computer can handle that, it had some trouble to handle even this last one, mainly because running out of memory, should make small swap partition for this Linux box I guess
Edit: I did some searching and found another place that let me upload full size panorama, but their interface is not so nice, also it was tiny box where you could see panorama, so I made box tad bigger:
http://jtbo.pp.fi/tiedostot/testi/test.html Remember to zoom out quite few times so image looks sharp, default seem to be quite lot of zoom in.
Original is here:

Hopefully tomorrow is sunny, then I could do one photo project that I have been hoping to do for quite some time.

Re: Photos
Would love to see your panorama from that beach, Autostich is program that can make panorama for you if using Windows, Hugin for Linux, those are quite automatic, just remember when taking photos that you overlap each shot and only rotate or tilt camera/phone, when you manage to take photos of desired area just load photos into program and tell it to do the job, from settings one can set size of photo etc, but it is really really easy, program even adjusts light levels and colours of photos to match automaticallyvolvosneverdie wrote:wow, thats pretty cool!
When ready uploading to that site and you have nice virtual view from the place, free of course.
Re: Photos
Making panorama from flowing water, quite not so simple, but it does not looks totally awful?

Re: Photos
I finally bought a new camera to replace the old and broken down PowerShot A510..
Well.. it's still not a proper camera as I didn't buy a DSLR cam but that comes later as now I need something which fits in to the pocket... At least I can take some fairly decent pics again.
But for a pocket cam it's got quite good specs. It's Canon SX200, 12.1mpixels, 12x optical zoom (equiv. 28-336mm) etc... and also HD video.
Quality wise it's way better than previous pocket cams I've had, aluminium has been used in lots of parts in this one instead of plastic...

I bought the black version of course.
I haven't tested it much but I'm heading to Russia for a week at next weekend (student trip/excursion) so I suppose I'll snap some pics over there.

Re: Photos
Nothing special, just quick shot above house:

This scene I did almost miss, wen't to test 360 on road and there was some odd glow, I thought that maybe clouds on sky, but from some odd reason decided to check if those would be northern lights, can be quite difficult to spot by naked eye, when I come back with camera whole sky is kind of fire, birds were singing and it was quite bright outside, I run to grab my tripod and pod head comes right off, in panic I launch towards closests snow bank and hit camera in it pointing roughly into direction of sky and start shooting photos, I have never ever seen them this bright, not even way up north when I were, absolutely amazing, they were running to left, running to right, there were green ones, white ones, yellow ones and purple ones, I just try to make my best to get even some shots right, looks like that most of them are quite blurry...
edit: This I have to add, it has 360 in it
