But if there would been a moon, it would been lot less bright than those auroras at their best. If I would of known those appearing, I could be prepared with some video stuff, I got some video now too, but not very good.
Re: Photos
I first thought that I'm too ashamed to post this, but what a hell, this is my project, what is in this link is just first test with 300mm, my plan is to make few good ones eventually showing four seasons, but as of now, this is just a test and looks like that it will be possible, but it does require bit more practicing, overexposed bit here and also got bit too much blur, partly because of damp air too, I don't know yet if it is possible to get perfectly sharp photos from that very far, but I try, maybe some filter thing would help?

Found limit of Panorama software, it did say that there were too many photos, 114 photos were still ok which is number used for this one.

What a night, just pure awesomeness
I go out and eerie glow was back again, so decided to go bit better shooting location.
Right after I manage to unpack my stuff I get this:

Face is like
Few moments later, I get this:

Face is like
Then while camera says low-batt and horn owl makes it's horrifying go away noises at close by tree, I get this:

I'm like
and quickly pack my stuff as that damn horn owl goes nuts, however that 'eerie glow' (more like sky is on fire), started to faint away.
I don't know what that horn owl is at english, but it is big, it has horn like earthings and big yellowish eyes, also they tend to attack when defending their territory, but only at certain time of year and I was not going to find out if it is that time of year or not

As a member of the Cree Nation, your explanation offends me deeply.Speedy88 wrote:Gorgeous! Its incredible to think that's an effect caused by our magnetic field springing back
It is in fact the Dance Of The Spirits.
They always get down and boogie around the equinox.
Re: Photos
Thx from all the comments, I still think it is more luck than skill
It was 4nT towards south there, KP index was 5 which means magnetic storm, 6 being very strong storm.
I have been trying to compose shot that would show whole scene at full strength, but it is not so simple, getting images to line up is sometimes pita, but it is that mainly because of my photographing + partly because when lights are strong they tend to move quite a bit, so there is quite limited timerame to grab all the shots and to get 4 to 6 shots camera takes 30seconds to shoot and process them, with modern camera that is better as one can use lot shorter exposures.
Best I have come up this far contains still errors and can't get those extra shots to line up at all, also all lining up must be done manually as program's logic seem to get confused with these shots, so it is lot of work really and sometimes quite challenging work as stars can look quite different from different angle and there is not much else to make control points to, also they move a bit even in one minute time.
Also I did make adjustments so that it would reflect more what I saw, however it might be adjusted bit too far, looks very different from my another screen, purple being almost not visible and with this screen it is quite well visible, so can't really tell
It could use at least 4 more pics, but those seem not to like to line up too well. Must practice more.

Ice is retreating, even it is quite slow process, but places with decent waterflow there is already open waters:

There I was freezing (-2C) and waiting for spectacular sunset because of volcanic ash, but no, only tiny hint of red and of course lot of clouds. Still, I kind of like that shot, that is very much Finnish kind of scenery, water and trees.

It's a swan and the tree

It came low and fast, so I did release my camera from tripod, quickly set some settings that might work (I ended up 1/80, f/13, ISO200), turned max zoom in that was 55mm and decided to keep focus to infinity as it was because I was trying to take good shot of sunset, rest is photoshop, moved swan bit so it was not near to tree and removed ton of black dots and other errors that dirty sensor makes, also adjusted colours of swan a bit as it was rather blue. It might been better to let swan be near the tree, it did not look completely stupid, but I just decided to move it for some odd reason
