Some fantastic pictures here, even if I don't comment much I always enjoy this thread :-)

The other day I discovered this page from the Boston Globe:
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/

it's updated quite regularly and is fascinating if you're interested in world news AND great photography.

Keep it up, Jani, Chris, Steve and all the rest of you!

Some pics from the Russia excursion. Many pics are taken from a moving bus so flares etc.. are present but I think those add character in some pics. :P Nothing artistic either, just random snapshots.

Vyborg Castle, former Finnish area.
Image

Childrens hospital which was never completed.
Image

Small roadside cafe, on the way to Zelenogorsk (former Finnish name Terijoki). Food was great.
Image

Beaches of Terijoki.

Image

And they say it's the Finnish agriculture polluting the Baltic sea.. I think the untreated sewage of 5 million people in Saint Petersburg and more in surrounding areas might have something to do with it also...

View from the hotel balcony at Terijoki. Ocean hides in the mist.

Arriving Saint Petersburg

Hotel Moscow at Saint Petersburg

Some nicer buildings at city centre.

Neva River.
Image

A cow. This was at Estonia though, Tartu Agro. Huuge farming corporation.
Image

More pics from Tartu, Estonia.

Sorry about the pic flood. I took over 500 pics so it was difficult to pick even this small amount. :D

Thanks. :D

I have many pics from the countryside of Russia too and I can say it's another world.. it's a huge contrast compared to large cities like Saint Petersburg with polished and repaired monuments and palaces.

Here is one weird idea of mine, take a look at here http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... f=2&t=8004 , maybe you can spot some places in those photos and your photos being the same, would be interesting to see what has changed especially at countryside, but be warned that might be too interesting and you find out being spend whole day looking those amazing shots from late 1800's to early 1900's

It has changed to worse I'm affraid. Most houses look like no one could live in those but almost every one is occupied. There are 20 million hectares of unused good agricultural land in Russia but as no one has any resources to farm those, they just grow wild.. It's quite a waste actually. (In comparison, Finland's total agricultural land area is about 2 million hectares) But many people at countryside in Russia get only 20 euros in a month, minimum wage.. so I think you only think about staying alive at that point.

It's a thing, you can guess, but I'm pretty sure that you can't make it out from that photo, it is so limited view:

Thx :D

I think I did run 16.5 with my 360GL, however it was not standard, megasquirt and K-cam mods, i guess that long diff did not hurt acceleration so much as I thought.

Some random pics from different places. :P I've been travelling between places quite a lot because from may to september I'm working at MTT Agrifood Research Finland (I'll do my master's degree practice also at the same time) and for may and september I'll work at different post than for june, july and august. Neither of these offices are at my home city so there's some travelling.. :P Though I've got an accommodation provided by the employer so it's no problem.

GLT at the fields. :D
Image

Driving home @ nightly highway after 13.5h work day.. :D May was quite hectic, now it's settled down.
Image

Two pigeons at the driveway.
Image

Old milestone, probably from the time when Sweden ruled Finland (Between years 1150 and 1809) because text is swedish.
Image

There was an observatorium of Turku university near the place where I stayed during may. For some reason some of these facilities remind me of Half-Life or Lost.. :D

Image

Looks like there has been stairs around the building.
Image
Image
Image
Image

Weird shaped buildings.
Image

ET phones home?
Image

Image

View from the hill where the observatorium is located.
Image

I don't know what this is, probably some power lines?
Image
Image

Which end up in a wooden shack which contains nothing?
Image
Image

Most likely a bomb shelter.
Image
Image

Gazebo at the old manor area which is now managed my MTT and is used as research facility. There's also the guest house at the old manor area where I stayed for may.
Image

Some fields next to the place where I'm staying for next three months.

Cows at the field.
