guys ive been feeling very smug today as i managed to get a flywheel and just round the corner from me :D so was very happy till i fitted the flywheel and realised that the dual mass clutch and the one off the solid flywheel arnt rite lol, what clutch do i need that will fit in the flywheel and on the 360 splines (or how ever its spelt)? because the clutch that came with the dual mass dosent fit in the flywheel, and the one that came with the solid flywheel fits in the flywheel but not onto the prop/splines on the 360

Sorry I wasn't around to confirm it - I was away over the weekend. As you've probably gathered, yes, the flywheel from a car with a B200FT + M46 combination is correct (just in case anyone searches in the future - it's not the only combination - see earlier posts!).

Make sure you mount it the right way round - with the engine at top dead centre (marks on front pulley at "0" timing marker on cam belt cover, or front two cam lobes (with lid off) pointing up, forming a "V" shape when viewed from the front....if that makes sense), the blanks on the flywheel need to be in line with the starter motor hole.

As for the clutch...the theory goes that you use the 360 disc and the pressure plate from the 940 which donated the flywheel (the plates and discs *should* be the same fitment...only the splines differ...so the firmer turbo PP is a good idea), but we found on Adam's car that the 940 PP didn't clear the 360 bellhousing, so we just fitted the complete 360 clutch. How well that stands up to the torque is a tricky question...and it's a bugger to change on a 360. :(

In other words, I'd fit the complete 360 clutch as a starting point...just brace yourself for it not lasting too long. Use that time to think of a more durable solution...I've got a few thoughts.

cheers

James

Use that link, adjust it for different page numbers. Clutches go for around about 100pages, using that I found that 340 spline shafts are the same as old Ford crap (and as I happen to know of a source for old Ford stuff, tested it and it's spot on, they are the same). So 340's at least can run 8" and 8.5" clutches, just not found an OEM 8.5" flywheel yet with the Renix trigger pattern.

LH trigger pattern on the other hand is easy... have those laying round. Guess whose tubby now has an 8.5" clutch waiting ;)

The standard clutch for the 'dished' flywheel is 9"...and an organic disc that size runs out of grip before 300lbft in something the weight of a 7/900. In other words, get the 'right' standard sized organic clutch in a 360, and it should be fine up to the point where you need to throw away most of the drivetrain anyway.

We had to go more exotic in the 740 (300lb/ft) as we didn't want to go to the expense of a billet flywheel for a larger (circa 240mm) disc. We ended up with a 4-puck sintered (but sprung) disc and a standard pressure plate. It's certainly grippy!

Not very well IME. Fades like a bastard if you try to drop the clutch from standstill. That was with a brand new 360 FP/PP and only 4 psi too. I will not be running this setup when my car is back on the road though, that's for sure!

The B200 with the twin carbs finished my last clutch off nicely, although the new one appears to be holding up. I didn't hold out much hope for the clutch, but it'll get you up and running, at least.

For people who might read this afterwards... I was doing some work on my Corsa this weekend, it's a slushbox 16V 1.4 and has a really nice trigger wheel and sensor with bracket mounted as it's factory pickup. Looked like a 60-2 too but I didn't count it.

36-1 is the other common pattern (for obvious mathemetical reasons :)). 60-2 is quite a lot of teeth!

my local volvo dealer couldn't even get me a set of plug leads, never mind a little seal lol

True, but those seals were used on 940s up until 1998...it's only 300 series stuff you can't get! Anything popular in the US will be available indefinitely...
