Chris,
Do you have a link to that 244 roof forum topic on the VOC ? I just looked and can't seem to find anything.

Thanks,
John

You're going have to crack this search business John

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthrea ... n&page=204

wind back to page 195 for the spare donor roof.

"MARILYN" took the short drive to the body shop a few hours ago.
I'll keep everyone posted when there is progress.

Hi John.
I think it means something when the rear glass did not get broken.
This car was meant to get fixed and saved :D :D :D .
Look forward to seeing the end result.
Cheers Mark.

Beleive it or not Mark....

Neither the hatch glass nor the side glass was broken when the limb crashed through the roof. As a matter of info the Side vent cover as well as the headliner are also in perfect condition and came through without a scratch.
The only thing mangled was the stainless gutter edge trim bit at the rear as well as the internal roof support. So as you can see I have only a few small bits to replace. :D :D
Very lucky indeed.

@ Rich P.

I think I will be ready to collect those 343 bits we spoke of very soon. Probably at the ED Weekender. I think I can squirrel them into the back of the 66 when it is shipped over or (for the smaller bits) in my suitcase. :D

About a week ago a rather large package arrived from Holland. Danny was able to cut a large chunk of roof for me from a scrapper 343 he had just received from France.

This chunk will be cut out on my roof and be replaced...

If the roof had been less damaged, and had it not been for that deep crease, it would have just been beaten out and leaded back to shape. Unfortunately, it was so severly damaged that we had no choice but to replace it.
"Marilyn" will be heading back to the body shop within the next 10 days.

John, without wanting to sound down on your efforts, how many layers of metal are at that point in the shell?

I'm just worried if the body shop only weld the outer two (i.e., don't split your doner piece) and there are skins in the middle the shell would be very weak if it ever rolled.

Good luck with what you choose though, mammoth work!

Tend to agree with Chris, looking at the photo of the new section I feel that the C-pillar was cut too small.
From past experience I know that a "slide" of 2-4 inches per layer is needed to get the constructional strength back to original.

Thanks Chris & RJ...
I will let my body guy know and try to maintain the 4 inch specs on all panel layers. We should be able to at least get to the 2 inch mark without a problem, although more would be better.
If the panel had not been so badly creased we would have choosen to beat (or vibrate) the metal back in shape, this would have been the best solution! Unfortunately, this was not an option in this case-
