Having a car look good is one thing, having a car that handles/goes round corners properly is another.
If you start running spacers you put more strain on the bearings and will more than likely have to run some sort of stretched tyre to clear the arches.
With regards to Starmags i'd say go for it, i had 10's on my Mini, i would have got them myself but my Ultralights were a bargain.
MWS sometimes get knocked for their quality and being reps etc, but i've never had a problem with their wheels over than laquer lift. If you've not looked at their site yet they have quite a nice selection of old school looking rims including Starmags :
