The steer rack is not so difficult to remove, but the bolts threads need cleaned with a wire brush and penetrating oil. The steering damper rubber can be hard on the knuckles. You will need a ball joint remover. A big hammer on the side can be used, but it may distort the metal, ball joint removers are fairly cheap.
That rust looks pretty bad, it will bad at the seam close to the radius arm, and part of the corner re-enforcement is missing.

Excellent work man - I got my 1.7 going again this weekend and it works!! No need to tell us everything about yourself or someone might clone your identity - I'm sure you can trust everyone on this forum but we are open to outsiders

Now, Zak, what did you say your date of birth and passport number were ;-?

back to work again tomorrow.. almost 2 week delay. Actually there are 2 problem for me now. 1- I cannot open the tyre on Driver side, secondly, I bought the wrong tool.. it's shape like a fork..big size, it says tie rod remover and I don't know how to use it..and a friend said I need to loosen the tie rod end before pulling out the ball joint.

Slacken the nut, so it doesn't come apart when it pops.
Use bigger hammer.

I find a hammer or two works well also. Really depends on the physical access available to the taper joint to be separated.

Ok.. it will pop..I hope it won't pop on me. I'll post a picture later this evening. Let's see what happen. In the meantime, I checked with local volvo parts supplier in KL, and they have 1 unit brand new power steering rack for volvo 360, and it's a bit costly..RM1760 convert it to GBP would be £323.6. What do you think?

Sit it out and play poker with the dealer. It'll still be there in 6 months.
And you still need a pump, heatshield, pipes, brackers, reservior, etc., etc.
