Hello guys!
This message to announce the end of the gentlemens agreement on Ebay.
I take this decison after discussions with V3M members, the situation has changed a lot since November 2005.
We are too many members, the nicknames are hidden on ebay now and it's not bad at all that prices raise.
It's a bit a shame because the idea was very good but it's not realistic anymore these days.

To be honest Aymat, the 'gentlemans agreement' was nothing more than just that, an agreement between gentlemen. There was no compulsion to adhere to it, and it only applied to a few members here anyway. If you no longer wish to adhere to it then that's fine, but there is nothing to 'formally' disband.
The original core of members is still around and I'm sure will still adhere to it out of decency and respect for our fellow Volvo owners, I know I will.

Ruppert, it's not that
"I" personnaly wish to stop to adhere to it, don't get me wrong. It's just that, as admin of the website, I had the question from members and it forced me to rethink that system (+ the questions that I already had in my mind)
The fact that the nicknames on Ebay are now hidden was the last point to make me think that it was better to stop with this agreement, it's now to hard to find out who's who.
To continue or not, both are justifiable. I won't continue but it's you right to continue, no problem.
But it had to be said 'formally' as you say to avoid surprises of outbidding cases. I prefer to say it and to be honnest than hiding it.

I've always interpreted the "Gentlemen's Agreement" like this: if I see someone is bidding, and I really want the item I send them an email to ask how desperately they're after it. Usually things can be sorted out quite easily that way.
However even this is difficult, if Ebay is now hiding the bidders' names. You can sort of guess it by how much feedback the other guy has, but then you'd have to start a new sticky thread titled "How much Ebay feedback do you have?" and that's a bit, well, impractical

its far easier for someone who has bid on an item and seriously wants it to let us know on here ,
then those who want to still abide by the agreement can do so .
for example in the for sale section
you could post seen on ebay red 360 glt ,
I have made a bid on this item, pleas dont out bid me
we origionally started this to stop the price of items being , if you like , falsely inflated by outbidding each other as much as anything else
I would like to think that most members would advertise there cars or parts here first befor using ebay
( if nothing else it saves you paying fees )

If its a name I know, and I really want it then I just ask them.

I know , I have three now and I can honestly say none are my fault,
one because I left someone neg because they haden't paid for an item they bought ( and I left it six weeks and emailed them 14 times )
one because I left neg for someone who refused to complete a sale of a bed because it didn't go for as much as he wanted for it .
and the last one was ,I am sure a genuine mistake by the seller,
he gave me a good comment but left negative feedback.
The biggest problem with Ebay is they wont remove them

I personaly will stick to the agreement if there is a name i recognise. I totaly understand where Aymat is coming from and we cant expact other forum members not to bid on an item we are bidding on.
Best bet if you realy need an item is to ask other mebers not to bid.

Im forever buying bits off ebay and thinking 'this is probably someone from the forum', but never ask in case it makes me look like a plum to some random pleb.

Did anyone on here win the Wellers tonight for £50 then? I was putting in my bid of £53 when the auction finished
They were in London aswell unlike the other wheels i've bought which are still in Leeds waiting for me to collect them.

Want some wheels picking up and bringing to the meet? I'll only charge for the extra petrol needed to detour off the A1, probs about a tenner.

Depends on where the meet is, i don't think my car will be on the road then either and if it's on the weekend of the 28th i'm at the Volksworld show.
Besides its two sets of wheels one with tyres still fitted, so space maybe tight. The owner at the moment is happy to store them until i sort a courier so i think i'll just do that when its convenient for both of us.
* Just noticed the show is at Brooklands, the Volksworld show is at Esher, about 15mins apart from each other, so if you are up for that, i'll pop over and pick them up??
Thanks a lot for the offer though FJ

I should have plenty of room in the 740 mate, had 8 wheels on the back seat alone before. Wanna shoot me the pickup addresses and I'll check times and get you a petrol quote? Should work out cheaper than a courier.
