For me the main problems are:-
1. Wind noise. I travel over 250 miles per week, mostly on the motorway and the wind noise sucks, as foggy mentioned, its mainly the aerodynamics but some of the noise comes from the sunroof.
2. Sunroof, not so much of a big deal because I hardly ever use it. it did go on alll 3 GLTs ive owned, although the last GLT it did work until the day i sold it lol. I know its not a Volvo design, but its still fitted on a car they and DAF designed, that makes it their mistake.
These are the only things I consider a big deal. The boot struts, parcel shelf, rust, handling can all be dealt with. I dont personally think the handling is all that bad considering the car's weight, my E30 316i handled alot worse in the wet than any of my GLTs, and all of them had front/rear, or both, knackered shocks!
All in all the 360 is one of if not the most cheapest 2liter engined car to buy and insure, its well specced and had some very nice optional extras that you wouldnt find on a similar car from that time period.
Every car has its vices, no car is perfect, you only need to look at the Ford Pinto if you want to see a really dangerous and crap car design.
Regards,
Al

I was recently proven wrong by Pete's white car. If it's in good enough shape, they're as quiet as anything of a similar generation.

Yeah, you're right - windnoise on my saloon only starts at 80mph... otherwise it's pretty damn quiet. Sounds like Pete has a damn nice example of a GLT there!

Most of the windnoise is down to the sunroof, Kar's quite as anything with a glass roof

I reckon the main reason we've been moaning about windnoise is rotten sunroof seals and badly adjusted sunroofs. Sort these out and it's quiet again

Whats so bad about it? Bear in mind that any other car of the same age will have 'wear and tear' problems...

I've not noticeed the wind noise.
I would fault them for soggy suspension-fixable
Renault 1.4 engine (liners

) binable
cant realy think of out else.

Things I would change if could (in no particular order):
-Wind noise: my solution lies in the volume control on the stereo.
-Sunroof:after a final self-induced mullering of the winding mechanism mine is wedged shut with blocks of wood and sealed with sillicone to keep rain out. It still rattles!
-Water geting into electric window motors: mine were a right mess when I got the car. Took ages to sort out, they now work but sound like a chainsaw!
-I agree about foglight / rear demist switches being hidden by steering wheel.
-Boot should be included in central locking, or at least on the same key as everything else.
-Rear wiper could do with an intermittant wipe setting. Spray from a wet road is not dense enough to need the wiper on constantly.
-The bolts which connect the gearbox to the torque tube!! Why-oh-why did they have to use those pesky 'allen key' type bolts?? Mine have rounded inside so I can't get the gearbox out, which means I can't get the tube off so I can't do the clutch! Grrr.
-Purely for looks it could do with bigger wheels and a wider track.
-Driving position is very good but would benifit frm a centre armrest between the front seats.
-Headlights: p*sspoor, even for a car that age. I installed 80/100w bulbs but they're still bad, so I recently added driving lights to at least help the high-beam. And I agree about flashing the lights during the day, if you loose count of how many times you flashed it's easy to switch straight onto high-beam when you put the lights on. Does not impress drivers in front.
-Original stereo was not that good, but I suppose about average for the mid 80s. I agree about the front speaker grilles falling off. Superglue to the rescue...
Well, that about settles it. Quite a long list, but for a car that old, not too bad really. Most of it really minor things, and the list of what I like about the old beast is much longer...
Cheers

Two thoughts Andy....
Boot not on the same key? It should be...I detect a changed lock at some point. Agreed on the central locking. I believe a couple of people are working on that though...
Are you sure your headlights are in good shape? I think 17 year old reflectors probably don't help matters

Did I mention that I have a new pair for sale?
cheers

Sounds like blocked drainholes to me... even if theres gaps everywhere the seal is only to cut down wind noise and isn't waterproof.
