Lovely 343 Tom, good choice with the 13" alloys - suit it very well!

Aww man, that car is MEAN. Makes me yearn for a mk1, really want one now, but it'd have to be in some wild colour and striped. OOF.

OK, time for an update to this thread. Last weekend, the German DAF club had their "vario service day" where you can take your vario along and have it looked at by the experts:

The result was - new CVT belts, an oil change for primary and secondary CVT units, and a very interesting afternoon :-)

Didn't need the membranes (diaphragms?) but the old belts were pretty cracked:

Was a pretty sweaty journey - the heater valve is always slightly on - making the car freezing in winter and boiling in summer - other than that it stood up to the journey very well ...

Now time to tackle some rusty bits, then it's MOT time ...

Those wheels are very rare in the UK. Most were crushed along with their cars years ago. :(

That workshop: WANT!

I dug the mk1 R-Sport out of my unit today. It doesn't want to start...fuel delivery. The long cranks (pumping fuel to the carbs) towards the end of the summer should have been a giveaway...porous lines. I'll fill the lines and carbs with fuel manually, and cross everything I can find!

cheers

James

That workshop was fantastic. But I'd settle for having access to a vehicle hoist close by too ;-)
