Re: 1980 Mk1 for parts on the bay
Looks better already than it did in the ebay pics... the rear arches look good though? Silver is definitely one of the colours for Mk1's! I'd even keep the wheels painted black, maybe adding some chrome trim rings from a GLS
DL with a sunroof? Nice! They can be a pain but not too hard to take apart and put back together if needs be. Rubber seal is probably worth replacing though. Did the sunroof panel escape the rust bug?

Re: 1980 Mk1 for parts on the bay
That car looks complete, and absolutely saveable from your pics! Try sending Danny from dafhobby.nl an e-mail about parts - he recently broke a late '78 with a blue interior. Unfortunately, I can't remember if the car was silver or light blue metallic
A guy near me goes there regularly for parts for his DAF, so I'm sure we'd find ways of getting things over the channel ...
Nearly every Mk1 that comes up will need work doing - it's just a question of how much ...
Cheers
Tom

I also reckon GOOD Mk1's will be worth a fair bit of money now - £1000+? So any money you do lavish into it isn't totally going to disappear like it might on a Mk3

Hi Helldriver.
Great job in saving that car.
As for mk1s on the road.I have just got back from a 260 mile round trip in mine to
a place called Mullingar in the centre of Ireland. The old girl never missed a beat.
Good luck with the car.
PS If you boys want to see a daily driver, hop over to Belfast and you can stand outside my house
and watch me going to work in it.
Cheers Mark.

Re: 1980 Mk1 for parts on the bay
The sun roof's jammed slightly open (now taped over with polybag to keep rain out
) The actual sunroof panel looks rust free apart from a small scab at the front. Rear arches are very good (but inner arches are full of holes on drivers side). Although not sprayed very well, the wheels do look good black, with silver rims, esp. as the car is silver. Took a few more pics today, will post now.

Re: 1980 Mk1 for parts on the bay
That actually looks pretty good. Yeah, it'll be a lot of work (more than it probably looks), but totally worth it...and Tom is right, that car is far from done. A sunroof too? Another non-standard thing like my '80.
Oh...and you've seen the two 360s I have in Doncaster which you can cannibalise with an angle grinder for their floorpans, if you want...
Good info on the door frame. I put off having one of my 81 343s doors re-skinned because the frame was bad. It now looks like I might not have the option of using a later frame!
It must have been a very late sale. There will have been very, very few W-reg 1980 model year cars.
cheers
James

Nicely done Hell Driver - guess I won't be getting those tail lights then!
Will be good to see this one back in one (non ferrous) piece
There was a W reg 343 on Only fools I seem to recall. Dunno if it was a 1980 though.

Sorry about the lights! Yes I remember seeing that one, it was light metallic blue I think. Now I bet that one would be worth a bit more money than most if it's still alive!Nicely done Hell Driver - guess I won't be getting those tail lights then!![]()

Thanks for the offer on floorpans Foggy, I might have to take you up on that. Maybe some inner front wheel arch too
The car was first registered 1st October 1980, its last owner (apart from the lad I bought it from who had only had it short while) lived in Sheffield, where the reg number was issued. The dealer it came from in Sheffield still exists I think, so the cars not moved around very far. There's no history with the car but I think it's only had 2 owners from new.It must have been a very late sale. There will have been very, very few W-reg 1980 model year cars.
