jtbo, that cold?! Still +16 at Helsinki.

That spider web pic is great!

Sunset viewed from the roof of the summer house (the reason I was on the roof can be seen at the "Builders?" topic :)).

A bird's nest on top of a coil of barbed wire hanging on the granary wall.

Image

There's a bird's nest there at every spring/summer. It's probably quite a safe place to make a nest as I would imagine the barbed wire will keep the squirrels and such away quite effectively. :D

Few lightning shots taken from the balcony of my apartment.

Yeah, +16C has been standard this summer, not much over 10 days above +20C at whole summer. Today potatoes were dead, leaves were brown, I visited neighbourg's farm and it was sad to see whole field of potato being as brown as mine, much too early, at beginning of month there was around 0 for few nights, same for last month, but not quite freezing.

Oat is still green here, just starting to change colour at places, but I don't know how well it tolerates cold, quite poor summer for growing anything really as most would require month more growing time to be ready. Another issue here is that fields are so wet that it might be challenging to get much anything out from them now.

Summer can be of course even colder, but this must be coldest summer for at least 20 years. But maybe winter is then easier, as they say cold will never follow cold, we have got few very cold winters and quite warm summers, maybe now winter will be mild as summer was cold.

Nice pics of lightning! Here was thunder daily for bit over two weeks earlier at the summer, not many flashes really, just rumble and power blackouts.

It does look something that has finnish name 'hietapistiäinen', it is kind of wasp, there are really lot of different kind of wasps and translations are bit tricky. Wasps are often translation as ampiaiset, but then again pistiäiset are also wasps, but pistäiset are no ampiainen, but I think that at this point nobody has a clue of what I'm saying :D

You did a bit , so I looked at some pictures instead. I wonder if it's a red banded sand wasp? The only thing that looks different to all my Googling of pics is the massive ovipositor? sticking out of the rear...

Well, red banded sand wasp is hietapistiäinen, so basicly I suspected the same and now you know more finnish words again :D

Let's do some revival.

This Pine tree is still thinking "must reach up" it seems:

I feel someone is watching, wonder why it is so?

Wow, that's a lovely pair of shots Jani!

One from the South Downs Stages a month or so ago, I kinda bought a new lens. This is hammering it down with rain and very dark, yet the thing still holds amazing amounts of sharpness

Some electronics I've been building for a non Volvo project

Possibly the most important model pub in history (yeah... well... it's not like you lot don't know I'm epically sad already. Any fellow beardy care to say what it is?)

Not a photo per say, but... a badge that says someone was aware of how the future was going to pan out

Thx Chris!

Which lens did you bought then?

It surely is making really sharp photos, like watching without foggy smoke between item and you, which I find is case with my lens too often, but mine is cheapest lens on market for 300mm range, so maybe not much to except from that

Taking such crisp shot from race car zooming past must be a big challenge, my lens does not do autofocus well at all, actually it is 5% of cases that it manages ok, so I keep it off, but I guess for such photo one would need properly working AF? Those are really nice shots, especially that pub shot is something my eye likes!

I have put some thought on composition lately, placing target to thirds and allowing more space around the object if it is moving and placing object so that there is empty space where it would be going, I did test those in this shot, but shot is not very good in many aspects, but I think there is something in those principles that might make photos work really well when one gets everything right, this has some issues with light:
Image

Has been many months without much photoshooting as there is not enough light for anything I would like to take photos from, but I'm picking up the pace again as now days are bright again. What I really would like to start is taking photos of rabbits, foxes and alike in their natural environment, difficult to find those though!

Cheers Jani, its a sigma 150-500 with IS and a few other bits. The focus is much faster than my 75-300 and shots are much sharper too.

B18ftm, awesome shots chap, really enjoyed those!

B18ftm, great photos there! :)

Spring is near, photo from today:

These should be ready for Eastern, but at mornings it has been -20C or colder, this morning was not an exception, these are ones that were almost ready to drop that cover off, but not quite, most are not that far yet.
