Brave work there man! I also have the nice highly geared diff in my GLS and it doesn't in any way feel bogged down. Nice long gaps between changes as well as 75mph @ 3000.

It's not so bad when all the rust is falling on the floor and not in your eyes and down the back of your neck!
I cleaned up the springs this evening, they look OK under the stuff.

I assume this green mark is to tell you which end is which as the springs are asymetrical.

Nice to see the DAF mark on the bushes!
Theres a bit of rust in places but very light so they should clean up OK, the tar/cloth had kept them very clean.
Two questions for the experts out there:
1 How do I know they are GLT springs (they came off a GLT and I assume they are original but maybe not?) There is a number stamped on the end, is this usefull to tell them apart?
2. Is the only way to remove the bushes total destruction or does the metal inner come out to allow the rubber through? It's a pity to destroy them as they are not at all perished and no longer available. I'll be putting in Dai's bushes either way.

GLT springs should be thicker than 340 ones, that's one way to check.

Yes, the part number will tell you mate. Those springs have been covered in so much oily rubbish it's protected the metal superbly, they look in amazing condition. Bushes, I had to destroy a set in similar condition recently, you may be able to press them out but I wouldn't reuse them myself no matter how they look. I've kept mine for generic project other though.

Yes. (3)201761 [Nov 1986] is a 360GLT spring on a quick VIDA check.

Hi Andy.
Just love the front of your house man.
Why not put the GLS gear box into it. The extra gear
makes a lot of difference. Keep the origional gear stick.
I did it on the banana and its great.
Cheers Mark.

Rust damage under the front bumper, three weeks ago in preparation for a visit to PT Moores.

After deciding how much I need to replace on the car, I went of to PT Moores in Hefefordshire to gather some parts.
My shopping list was:
Front valance (still attached to the front panel as far up as just below the bumper mounting brackets).
This would have the advantage of 1) No fabrication work and 2)all welds would be out of sight and easily hidden behind the bumper where the paint is mat black anyway.
Both Doors I had collected various doors in order to repair the originals which to be honest are beyond easy repair. I'd though I'd never find any with the correct internal trim fitting pattern. Now I have and this should save many hours!
Anything else which I could get my hands on!
Crap phone camera as I forgot to take the proper one.

I also got the bootlid (the original has a bit of rust on the bottom and some dents so again this will save work and time, the window is also free from scratches, JAKs has one or two.)
Bumpers, well a spare set with end caps won't do any harm! Bit of a dent under the front one but not too bad.
I wanted to take the front screen as well but ran out of time and I wasn't quite sure how to get it out.
I took the front panel as well, mainly for the stainless trim around the lights, I didn't have time to get them off so got the lot! Panel has some light dents but would fix up fine.
I took the view that even if I don't need all of it, at least it's now saved from the crusher!
I'm starting to run low on space due to dimantling cars to get part to go on this car! I was lucky a few weeks ago as I managed to get hold of an old post office van body when a neighbour moved house. He had it as a shed, now I have it as a mobile shed!

Now I can start the total dismantling of the car with somewhere to put all the bits!

I never noticed before that early 340's have the anti roll bar mounted further back on the front beam. Does anyone know if the dimensions of the anti roll bar are the same between early and late models?

...because the brackets sit at about 45 degrees, opposed to being vertical on late ones? Do I have that right? If so, I haven't noticed. I almost certainly have a mk1 ARB which can be donated to the cause.
cheers
James

That is exactly what I had spotted. The reason I was asking is if there is to be another run of upgraded bars I want to know if the bars will fit all models or if the early version would be excluded. I would not want to have someone end up with a part that would not fit.
James BTW keep an eye out for the postman

Will do! Rears are on...just awaiting gearbox fitment, then I'll get the front up in the air for round two of that!
cheers

Considering this was going to scrap, it's honestly not
that bad. I mean, it needs some work but it's not totally gone. Good to see it getting some progress
