And it would not be slow, 300 or 400kg max and you will find lot of parts to spice up 1.4l engine so it would be something like 5-6 seconds 0-100kph, would be wild thing.

I will do such thing someday, but first need to buy house or at least some warehouse/garage ;)

Hi Germ, I'm pleased to hear that.

I think you can better customize your 340, because building some drivable buggy would be a lot of work. Don't be afraid to brake your 340. You just keep becareful, like i do. I do like my 340 very much, and i also don't wanna brake it. All technical damage is possible to repair, I think that's no problem. But yeah, there is always a bigger risk.

And if you're really love youre 340, buy a second one.. And do what you like.

Bought a "new" vario today... I'll put it this weekend on. I'll take the old one off, and take a look or it is possibel to weld the diff. Maybe some new bearings etc.

Also bought a colour spray witch match exact with the original colour. The screen refurbish can start :)

I'm back from a driftday at RDW circuit lelystad. I "ll tell you my experience.

06:45
I wanted to get out of my bed, but slept trough the wake up thing...
07:45
Got telephoned out of my bed by a mate.. Toke a quick shower, and jumped into the car. A our and a little bit more later I was just in time at the track.
09:15
A little theory lesson, wich wasn't more than "respect for others material" and "you don't want theory, so lets go drift"
09:30
Started calm, just look how the track looks like. The track was made wet, so its more easy to go sideways. One of the instructers drifted a few times in my car, told me the car was diffecult to drift (not stranges, with the 1.4 vario...) In the beginning I was drifting each corner, later more drifting from corner to corner.
13:30
Pauze, just a quick fuel consumption.
14:00
Drifting again, I was getting better and better, drifting the whole track 5 times around, from drift into drift, a lot a of maximum angle and without spinning. When the wet tarmac became dry, i stopped drifting because I didn't had enough power. Later, when i knew how it should be on dry, I started with high speed drifting into the corners, twice the speed compared to the BMW's.. (they had 100% sper and 170 bhp, and can go sideways without idiot speeds :P ) They have made movies, but i don't know or the filmed me. (lets hope)
17:00
The day is over, wow now already? Damn, it want more

Some telephone made pics:

Unfortunately I have no action photo's. .. There are made, I hope I can find something on the web.

I hope even more I am in the movie, wich will be availeble in a week.. I'll post the link.

And yes, it felt good to see that I did a lot better than other people who were there for the thirt time, and drove a welded diff and 190bhp Beamer...

If I can prepar my car a little bit more (welded diff, suspension and dampers changed) I wanna go for my drift License

Grtz..

Nice post! Sounds like its going well, it always impresses me how far you can go with a variomatic  :D

Impressive stuff Frits :D Good to see you having a lot of fun and showing up the more powerful cars! When you step into a powerful car your going to find it so easy! You should really try to do the suspension next, then you can probably make more use of the power you have, also worth getting a bucket seat if you haven't already, bet it was hard work holding on! What tyre pressures did you use?
cheers

Yes, its going very well. And the most important thing, i think, i do like it so much!

I wonder how it wil go with a welded diff. Drifting will be better, but at the moment i still use my car for daily drive.... :?

Anyway, I also do wonder what the variomatic thinks about drifting, it needs cool air, wich won't get in the intake in the bumper, while going sideway. I vario already gets very hot, in normal use! However, dind'nt got any trouble last sunday. :P

Will welding the diff not put excess force on the belts? I don't know how the variomatics work. You should cut your springs and fit some adjustable rear dampers, will make a lot of difference

Ali: didn't see your post;

Everybody says it.. If you can drift this car, a powerfull one is a piece of cake. ... We will see, the 343 isn't finished yet :P actually, I don't know or the 1.4 turbo is enough... maybe a 16v in this 340 :P

Back to reality, I really gonna do the suspension next, I've alreay almost all the stuff.. Think about 4cm lower, rear and front. (maybe rear a little bit more)

Bucket seat! What a word! I am complete smashed from the left to the right of the car, The whole day long.. My body hurts everywhere .. Gehehe :P really need to get one indeed

tirepressue I used:

Front: 2.5 Bar
Rear 4.0 Bar

I think a welded diff not put many extra stress on the belts.. I can explain the variomatic, but if you wanna know, I think its better to search.. :)

i have:

OMP front springs
Koni adjustable front
Koni adjustable extra load rear
and a set adjustable koni rear

This is NOT on my car

It was for my 343 turbo, but i think i put it on this car, and find extra sets for the 343..

I will see... :P

Ahhh brilliant!! Yeah get them on and get practising, can always swap them onto the turbo car afterwards!

I'd really recommend getting a bucket seat, you want to be concentrating on the driving, not trying to stop yourself getting thrown around, same as if you can pick up a cheap harness its worth having.

I suppose the welded diff will put strain on the driveshafts rather than the belts just like on a manual car, I heard the vario acted as an LSD though but if its not locking up enough then get that thing welded, will make a lot of difference and be really predictable

the variomatic thats under the volvo's doesn't really act as a lsd. The belts connect to the diff, and the diff divides the power to each wheel.

Old DAF systems, uses belts on the shafts, that would work as a LSD
