I'm seeing the common thing here as cheap as possible.

240 calipers are well known as the best of the scrap pile caliper you can buy.

It looks like what I need to do if find a way of using a 240 caliper combined with a vented disc of some sort.

I'll start digging my books out over crimbo.

I don't think it needs to be ghetto cheap...but a lot cheaper than the AP kit for an 850, etc.

cheers

i dont think you'll be doing any digging at all. as i said earlier (but noone took notice of) my family owns a motor spares shop. im working there over christmas, so i can find out what size discs will be needed for the 240 callipers.

i found out today (from what info i thought would be relevant) about the standard disc size on the 360 which is:

239mm diameter
69mm bore
29mm height

since the callipers are to be changed, i didnt bother with the thickness of the discs or anything else. i thought these would be the main things needed. correct me if im wrong. also does the height matter as the hubs can be machined down right?

now all i need is the parameters/measurements/tolerances for the new discs so that 240 callipers will fit. eg. max/min thickness of disc and anything else you guys can think of.

should be able get the info for tomorrow evening so hurry up and get posting!

22mm thick 10.5 inch diameter discs suit 240 calipers , they are a heavy lump tho .

they are also used in a split system so you have to be carefull with master cylinder sizes etc , altho a 240 caliper is prolly the best of a bunch for the price - either that or secondhand porsche brembos !!!

porsche brembos fit the 305mm discs from TSR - only need brackets making .

of course they dont fit under 14 inch wheels!!!

they need either 22 or 28 mm space in the calipers IIRC.

TSR do the kits for about £500 for vw and seats , someone should take a look .

well ive found out the biggest discs that would fit are the G60 ones. any bigger and it requires 5 stud...

so that just leaves the callipers.

brembos would be nice. if were doing this (reasonably) cheap, we need to work out what 4-pots everyone can get their hands on easily and wont break the bank either. once thats established, then classicswede could make the carriers i suppose?

impreza callipers would be alright, since all the calculations have already been done by that other guy (good work mate). but getting a set of 4-pots could prove to be tricky as not every impreza has them.

i was thinking, what would be pretty trick is if we got some red dot discs (well i think its red dot) where they machine some writing onto the face of the disc and then it stands out when it gets covered in brake dust. V3M possibly?

Hehe....good detective work that man. That's clearly the conclusion that Mark Higgins came to, as he has G60 brakes all-round on his race prepped 360. I think he uses the G60 calipers too.

cheers

Just thought of this randomly!! Could you do sender kits for gauges for the different cars? It seems like everyone that buys gauges has a problem fitting them and might be popular amongst the drifters to keep an eye on temps etc :D

Senders are OK, as long as you know what you want ;) VDO catalogues are great, and tell you part numbers for all threads, and they come up on ebay lots, just most people can't match gauges to senders :P Thats why sets of senders and gauges go for so much more on ebay. Another problem might be VDO senders are damn expensive anyway, so I doubt Dai could make anything on it :(

Give me a shout on MSN, and I'll give you a hand if you want! Might be a plan to put thread sizes in a sticky for the technical section though, to help future peeps. I've done gauges for 1.4 and 1.7s now, so just need a redblock to complete, which at least Foggy has done.
