Thanks people, your enthusiasam for my project is very flattering, but soon my head will be so big I wont be able to get through the garage door to finnish it LOL There is still a lot of work to do, but if I get it to the meet with the new engine you are all welcome to go out for a burn in it.

No garage here either, -20C yesterday so nothing done to car either, ok I did waxed it little over week ago, but then I had access to garage.

I already had a spare exhaust lying around, cause I heard the old one would not last very much longer.

Murphys Law: It broke on the same day the snow came. So I had to fix it lying under the car, in the snow, with icecold hands water dripping on my head.

First time and last time I did that. Who cares about waking up the neighbours in the morning with my "sporty" exhaust

Working under freezing cold cars with water dripping on you is about as bad as it gets, you have my sympathy!!

I have driven in a R5 GTT from a friend.
He has fitted the same engine in it.
He needed to saw off the bracket for the steer assist pump and has just a 1,5 cm clearance.
It's a stock engine but its capable off pulling the briks out off the road.
And i regulary help a guy out who drives a Volvo480 turbo.



I´ve been tinking about the same thing.
But aim out of money, work and out off guts am afraid.

Its much easyer here in holland with the steer and brakepump at the "rong side" .

I also found out that you can fit in the crankshaft and rods from a 1,9 renault Diesel engine to make it a 2.0 liter.
But you have to make a little "room" in the blok and need to balance it all to make it rev better.(because of higher piston speeds.)
But the torq. will be more than 250 nm for a turbo.(under 0,7 bar turbo press.)

I realy hope to fit a B18 106 hp non turbo stroked to 2.0 i in my 340 this year.
But it really looks wishfull thinking right now.
The fastest B18 Admosferic engine has the same moving parts and piston cooling as the turbo engine.
And this sport camshaft looks very nice.(Its not for a turbo though.)

look for renault F2 F3 engines.

And i have a small tip for some fast driving this summer.
Get your radiator coolling blok replaced with one from a 340 1,6 diesel.
And overheating even with an turbo is history.

Hi andries, how is your 340 doing? did you get an exhaust manifold for it?
I was thinking that as a future development I could use the renault 16v head (clio 16v, clio williams) I think the block is basicaly the same maybe you could fit one of those in your car? Wish mine was left hand drive, It would make life a lot more simple!

The Renault 19 16v head bolts straight onto the 400 1.8 engine...not sure about the bore on a 1.7. Might be worth checking this out - although of course the manifolds no longer fit, etc...

Well maybe .

I did not get a exhaust manifold for my engine.
I´ve build a spare engine in it.
It hase run only 66.000 km´s
Nicly cleaned and new oil seals new rebuild cill. head etc.
Its a radical difference in torq.(in a good way.)
And feul economy.
Its still a hell of a job to get a good carb. though.
The choke broke down and i coun'nt find the problem.
So i replaced it and it worked! .
But now are the seals under the carb leaking.
So the engine won't idle good.
So ill order new ones and check the underside off the carb. agian.
I need to straighten it with sandpaper on a plank if its slightly bend.

The engine is in storage.
Its a shame really.
But its better to keep the engine than have sell it with the car.
I can't ask that much money for a 340.

Ill try to keep the car as long as i can.
But i still have no job.
Iam considering to go back to school agian.
As a PA sound technician.
But as a student its even harder to find a weekend job.
It is still not sertan but i keep my options open.

I dont know how the unemployment is in your country but in Holland its pretty bad at this moment.

Nice idea about that 16v cil. head though.
But will the 16v cambelt with rollers(tensioner) fit?
160 bhp is possible with a few mods.
There is even a guy here in holland on the Renault tuning club.

I alraidy have my MBO papers for second degree car technician.
I do not know much about PA and light but its good to get some new papers.
And iam learning alot from a good friend who is alraidy in the trade.
I have workt on few jobs with him.
He allraidy has great sound equipment.

And a 4folio 19 inch Soundcraft table.
A nice crossover and eq.

Maybe even a Marantz cd 73 special edision(maybe Ki signature.)

A little friendly advice...maybe this doesn't apply to where you are, but if this was England...That kit is pretty decent for pub gigs, etc, but you really wanna raise the stakes if you're planning to make a living out of it (...my main objection is with the speakers). For a start-up business I'd be looking for known PA specialist brand-names - JBL, EV, etc - a friend has got on very well with some HK Audio kit....anyone who also makes guitars (etc) is a bit "off" for professional usage. Also avoid Behringer like the plague - they're fine for a bit of weekend fun, but you drive a Volvo not a Saxo, so why would you buy the cheap and nasty PA gear

My rig is mainly for 'fun', hence I can get away with some of the shoddy bits, but we have a Allen & Heath GL2200 desk, C Audio SR series amps (a bit old fashioned now, but once touring spec), and home designed / built speakers (18" subs, 10"/1" tops). I have a JBL DSP loudspeaker management system, and the racks are all wired with patch panels. It was my full-time hobby before cars...

On the lighting front we have a load of socapex / IWB parcan stuff, then 6 (plus 4 spare) big ass High End Intellabeam moving mirror fixtures.

At one point I was planning to start my own hire operation, but the capital involved is huge, and the market wasn't really there. Today the kit I have amassed thus far is used for gigs as and when we get them, and the missing bits are hired in. I've pretty much stopped buying kit now. I've decided (when I've finished my studies) to go and work for a big company - I need the security, and I don't feel the need to step out on my own any more!

Anyway....back to cars
