Re: Nimminz' GLT Daily
Love the progress on this Nimz
She's quite the looker

Re: Nimminz' GLT Daily
Cheers Mark!!
KPlenagh - Cheers! What you drive? I'll keep me eyes open for you
You must work/ live somewhere in the middle of durham then?
Welcome to have a meet up anytime
Speedy - Cheers, Just needs to run as well as she looks lol
UPDATE:
New 25mm ARB is on thanks to Liam's X-member, poly drop links, bottom arms i got off liam with orig bushes, new radius arms off liam with polys. Whe itting the radius arms I found that my inner n/s radius arm bush cup is rather rotten, kinda moves a fair bit. I thought that was giving me a knocking noise but that's turned out to be the drop link off the old newer-style arb that's still cable tied to the strut hitting against the new arb lol.
Leaks coolant from water pump and radiator, Diff's still leaking out bearing carrier but I have a spare o-ring, Exhaust is rather rattly and i keep having to tighten downpipe nuts as there is no other support until backbox - Gonna buy a low profile centrebox and make hangars for that. Release bearing still makes a noise after greasing it and the diagphram spring splines :/ Rear wheel bearing really needs replacing (has done since i bought the car) Gearlinkages still work by means of cable ties and random bits of metal used as wedges.
800 mile since the whole off-the-road episode and i'm loving it now
Diff's really nice, can feel the diference on every corner, seems much grippier. When you do go past the grip it's ... snappier? that could be the 175's on the cups though? The 3.82:1 final drive ratio is much better for me than the 3.64:1 standard GLT diff.
After some more flocking too when I have the cash, new brake lines, flexis, hydro, disks, pads etc. Some paint and filler to tidy the bodywork up along wit the JDM splitter. Might try a Rear anti-roll bar, oil cooler stuff to do, loads and loads but I'll fix the stuff that's broke first
Cheers,
Matt

Re: Nimminz' GLT Daily
I work at the VW garage just up at the Arnison.
Got a bit of a shed-like 02 plate Polo at the moment, but it does the trick for a first car.
Going to look at possibly getting a 340 or 360 and SORN it, work on it then sell my Polo and use it as a daily. But I don't really have a brilliant mechanical understanding. I work in accounts but I'd love to get a motor and work on it.

Hi Matt,
Is this mean my LSD works OK?
I need to get my other diff checked to see what ratio it has.
I will be using with smaller wheel than what V3M people are using it with.
Cheers

Re: Nimminz' GLT Daily
LSD is great, no problems at all with it, maybe a tad noisier? but only the tiniest bit.
Do you know what car the diff came off? Take a look at the transmission 'Green Book' in the technical info section, has a list of the different types, ratios and what they are off.
the 3.82:1 seems just right to me who doesn't travel on motorways much, think it sits at about 3k at 70 mph in 5th on 175/55/15's on a 6j
I'll keep me eye's open mate
300's do make nice daily's IMO although the 2L 360's are a tad thirsty
One thing i miss about my 206 was 40mpg. When i got the volvo my mechanical knowledge just stretched to changing disks and pads - I've learned loads and these cars tend to be simple to work on compared to modern things

Wouldn't get insured on a 2L 360, or if I would I don't want to see the premium!Nimminz wrote:I'll keep me eye's open mate300's do make nice daily's IMO although the 2L 360's are a tad thirsty

I get a good consumption from my Polo, but I have very very limited mechanical knowledge. Don't really want to work on my Polo, looking for something a tad different (Given that there are 3 Euro-Style 9N Polo's flying about where I live) to start tinkering with and build up my knowledge. I have always wanted to learn the basics, and go into depth to, about mechanics.
A 340 or 360 would be nice, but really I'm just saving up my spare cash and actively checking what's about. If I find a decent motor and I have the cash I'll buy it. Even something like a MK1/MK2 VW Jetta would be nice.
Re: Nimminz' GLT Daily
My diff and gearbox is off Adam aka 340R, so may be he can shed me some light.
I will 185/55-14 is what I will be using if iirc.

Little update,
Car's Going ok, Rather poor MPG due to exhaust blowing front back and centre but i've ordered a few bits to get it sorted.
Main thing was that i got some rather nice things for the car today...

now on 5 clicks back from stiffest and i love it
Feels a million times better. a couple of pics my brother took while i tested them out...

Aye i fairlys like them
And after having a real test of them tonight i took some pics in the fog

Right today I started sorting the exhaust, its been rattling, blowing and falling off for ages. Bought a couple of universal silencers and a 'balljoint' connector.
Dropped the whole system off the car which meant cutting the downpipe off the centre section as i paid some one a while ago to make me an exhaust with no centre box.
First port of call was to weld one side of the connector to the down pipe, this slotted straight on and meant i could weld it both insde and out

After this I welded the centrebox onto the centrepipe after chopping out a measured section

I then welded the OEM bracket onto the centrebox

I then painted and heatwrapped the downpipe (until i ran out thus the gap) and painted the centre section

Back box tomorrow
Oh and painted and fitted the B19 oil cap I got off liam

Thanks for looking,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Good to see my mask is used!
I shall wait for a test drive of your car in private road!
I will be in Japan for a week with business trip so may me after that then!?
Cheers

Hi Atchi,
The Mask really is great, no more faffing about pulling the whole thing up and down to see what you are doing.
Aye mate See you when you are back. Enjoy Japan

Re: Nimminz' GLT Daily
Top welding tip.
If the world can see your underpants, buy a belt.
Youre not Snoopy Dog Dog, Matthew.

Re: Nimminz' GLT Daily
Haha aye belt would have helped a fair bit.
So yesterday I welded on a hangar for the centrepipe 340 style just before the bends. Then we fitted the downpipe, which is a bit of a pain without removing the manifold. Then came the centre section, which 'could' be an inch or so short :/ But its on and only knocks on the heat sheild a bit. Baack box was a complete pain to do and i ended up tacking it in position under the car in the rain. I drove it last night and it's not bad, just needs exhaust paste in between the mani and downpipe (or a new gasket or both), and the backbox shoving on a bit more, with some paste.
I'll do that this morning
