V3M camping weekend again Last one must be at least 5years ago now

I think I've been volunteered to sort out the starting point, the driving route and the campsite.

I have a starting point in mind, a route vaguely worked out and have yet to investigate campsites.......

Some idea of how many will want to camp would be handy as obviously that would affect the size of site needed. Will a field with a tap do, or do people want shops, showerblocks, electric hookups, laundry facilities etc etc etc (tbh I'm guessing not!). Just a field may not be an issue - my boss has one handy, it has a tap and he won't object to bonfires, bbq's and late night noise (Hmmm, can I persuade Mrs Boss to make bacon sarnies for breakfast...........???)

Any updates? Camping is probably fine if the weather is ok

We (Mrs. Hell Driver and myself) were just wondering how to tackle the weekend. If it's camping we don't have a tent, but we do have a caravan ) so just a field with a tap would be ok. We do have gas (for cups of tea etc. and 12 volts but our mobile toilet facilities would become a little overburdened with 2many people so I'm assuming there would be a pub nearby which would no doubt be glad of trade for toilets?

Alternative is B & B but don't think there are many in Crich? and defeats the object of staying over, might as well drive home and back! (from Doncaster)

Only snag is, I would have come over in the GLS but no towbar so if it's the caravan it's the 340.

Whats everyone else doing?

Being aged and infirm in mind and body the need for some comfort means the boss and I usually (on our travels) end up in a hotel, and that normally means "Premier Inn".

Actually we have used them a lot over the years and have only ever had one bad stay. They have some great deals at most places(£29.00 for a double room) which are way down in B&B territory.
For this do we are going to travel up on Friday and have booked 3 nights (Monday we're off down to Dorset). We are booked in at Mansfield but there are lots of Premier around - and they genuinely are worth considering.

It would help if an itinery were forthcoming. If most are camping it would be usefull to know where so "soft, effete, hotel types" can stay nearby. I presume something silly will happen on Saturday night (barby with strong waters ???)

Nothing has happened so far as I've been away on holiday this week, plus there have only been two responses so far about type of accommodation needed.

My basic plan involves starting in a pub car park in Hulland Ward, which is halfway between Belper and Ashbourne on the A517, at about 10am. Travelers from N. Wales, Geordieville and the Soton area would have to leave at about 6.30-7am to make it, but as the drive wouldn't start until 11am (allowing us to vacate the car park before the pub opens) there'd be some leeway for late departures. I then propose a nice 'figure of eight' drive around the Peak district with a stop at a suitable Alcoholic Beverage and Food Dispensing Establishment at 1.30ish along the way. Further touring with suitable phot stops are planned with us finishing up at a campsite/field somewhere in the region of Hulland Ward/Carsington Reservoir at about 6pm. We can then spend an hour or so getting settled before either setting up BBQ's etc or naffing of to the original starting pub which does good food depending on the weather. The following day would see gradual achievement of consciousness followed by a relaxed trip of 15 miles or so to Crich.

Mac, there is a Premier Inn or Travelodge type affair in Ashbourne which is about 8 miles max from Hulland Ward, or the pub in question did do rooms. I'll check prices, but 5 years ago it was £50 per room for an en-suite room with 4 poster bed. The landlord died back in January, but his wife has kept the place going so I'll check if they still do accommodation.

I believe Foggy has a 4 man tent, I have a one man tent and a 4 man tent so I'm sure we can sort something out with a tent to avoid the stigma of having to have a caravan in our midst............

Does this sound like a plan?

The grey car will definately not be built for this but may be assmebled enough to trailer up? Will know after this week.

Thanks for the info Rupert - me and the boss are booked in ok at the "Mansfield" Premier (actually just off the M1).

Lets hope there is a really good turn out and all goes well !

For some reason I've missed the update emails. Rupert phoned me to prod, quite rightly, as time is marching on. He may well have a breakthrough on the camping front, as he's highlighted that most sites might not want us...large groups of men, no problem....but car enthusiasts...?! RUN AWAY!

The current plan is for me to organise the Sunday at Crich, and Rupert will deal with the Saturday drive, with the camping being a joint effort. Given that Chris was also involved with convincing me to make this happen, he's got off very lightly!

Since lists tend to get people a bit fired up, shall I start one?

We were also thinking about a "People's choice" judging event...where everyone can choose their favourite car from various categories, such as "cleanest 300", "most tastefully modified 300", "favourite 300", "nicest 1980 345 owned by a guy called James", etc. Thoughts? What would be good prizes?

The Saturday's looking good for me ... It'd be great if I could leave the VW ( ) at the pub car park, and drive with someone else, if there's a way of getting back to the pub by late afternoon?

I like those ideas Tom Prizes donated from the field would seem fitting, the 300 community I've always seen as one that pitches in and that just seems in the spirit.

FWIW, my passenger seat would also be available.

Hi all.
This sounds like a great weekend. I hope you all have a great time,especialy at the piss up afterwards.
Someday i would love to get over for something like this and meet other like minded nutters.
I hope there is plenty of pictures taken.
