They only fit on the 76 model year wheels! There are 3 studs the wheel middle to hold them on. There was a special tool with the jack to get them off the wheel, a bar with a peg on the end that fitted in a hole on the edge of the hub cap. I think the 77 model had the same wheels without the studs and the smaller cap held by the wheel nuts. The car I had was an S reg (77) but was made in 76, chrome mirrors, solid headrests, and the black hub caps. Doubt if there is a single one left on the road now

I've certainly never seen one as you described.
Very interesting though.

The '76 cars definitely have a completely different look about them, much more Daf 77 much less Volvo

There are one or two still left around, RJ Veraa in Belgium has a few I believe ... And one turned up on French Ebay a year or so ago.

don't forget Freerk Trenning, he has the oldest 300 listed! (chassis number 1800)

No, I meant the wheels themselves, sorry. I know the caps you mean, though.
This car is almost identical to my 80MY 343...except that this is an older car (78/79 MY?), so has the number plate below the bumper (dare I say it...ugly?).

Someone on Retro Rides got a picture of a bright yellow S reg 343 a year or two...owned by a very elderly lady. I think it was a 77MY though, as it didn't have the chrome bits a 76MY would have.
cheers
James

Ah yes, I forgot! A green one, IIRC, which he's having completely restored?

Mine had the number plate below the bumper too. Vin No. 343500HC316306. Which part is the chassis No.? Wish I still had the car now, it's the one that was stolen three years ago, although it was in pretty bad shape. Sills had rusted again and the wheel arches were 100% filler and fiberglass! Will post some pictures when I get them scanned in.

I've found the link to Freerk's '76 car (before restoration). Note the caps and the extra chrome:

Probably the oldest V300 in existence ...
