is it worth to change B200K engine into B200E ?

Post by Ernestas »

I have 360 GLS 85' with B200K engine and I got suggestion to buy B200E engine from volvo 360 too.
this engine has fuel injection ant how I know it produces 85 kW of power. My B200K produces 75 kW of power.

I think that volvo with B200K and b200E are the same and here is just diferent engines and all elecrical installiation just B200E engine has high pressure pupm near fuel tank

How do you think about this job ? Do I feel any diferent of acceleration between this engines ?

Just now my volvo has GAS equipment (it is much more cheap to ride because petrol is very expensive) but I thing it will be not dificult to put GAS equipment into B200E

carburettor versus injection

Post by mgarageu »

1. different fuel tank
2.no need to replace engine completely - you must install inlet manifold, replace plug in the cylinder head with coolant temperature sensor (for FI), install ECU and its wiring, air flow meter and its fitting, air filter with hoses, several small items, remove mechanical fuel pump, install electrical pump, fuel filter etc. not too serious work. if you want to use LPG, you must install suitable system, computer operated preferred. otherwise you may got sth destroyed, as you already had troubles with your carburettor! good luck!

Don't forget the camshaft is different! That's where most of the extra power comes from!

camshaft

Post by mgarageu »

you are little wrong about that. injected engine with carb-version camshaft has more power than with own, but needs too much fuel. have checked it several times. used dynamometer stand etc... sm72

Are you sure you swapped in the L cam from a 360 carb, and not a hotter cam from a 240 or 740 carb. The L cam from the carb version is a much lazier cam - lower lift, less duration, and less overlap. It does slightly better in the bottom end than the A cam from an injection model, but the top end is worse, and that's where you make the peak power figure.

I've done a lot of research into cams for redblocks, and assuming you've got it all set up right, the A cam WILL give more peak power than the L cam. The L cam is all done by 5000rpm - its an economy/smog cam. The US 740s had the lazy T cam to meet smog, while UK spec cars (and probably Europe too) had A cams, which gave about 20bhp more. And the T cam is hotter than the L cam!!

I'm not debating that you got more power from an L cam, but I think this was due to 'freak conditions', as it shouldn't be...

cheers
